For our 1st Anniversary (April 2014) we traveled to Ely to explore our wonderful State of Nevada and get our stamps along the way on the loneliest Highway 50. We made sure to celebrate our Anniversary dinner at the Cellblock Steakhouse located inside the Jailhouse Casino which you have the option to be seated inside cool looking jail cells reminiscent of the the old west.
Upon our arrival we were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated in one of the jail cells and to our surprise it was a romantic setting and comfortable with a one of kind unique setting that you can't help but capture one another behind bars forever on film aka pictures for you modern folk lol
After our adventure filled day on the Ely Sightseeing Train tour and walking around town looking at all the handpainted themed murals we definitely had an appetite for a great meal. Cellblock Steakhouse didn't disappoint with the amazingly, cooked to perfection filet mignon wrapped in bacon (medium-rare on the rare side)!! Service was on point and yes folks, I would safely state this restaurant experience was that of a high end steakhouse with not just a server but a server's assistant and a wine steward - exceptional, quality service! We paired our meal with the Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley Oregon which wonderfully complimented our meal. The stuffed potato covered in bearnaise sauce with spears of asparagus topped the meal off - can you say out of this world!! And the staff working were even kind to take pictures for us - - unique experience with amazing food!! Happy 2014 1st Wedding Anniversary...
Read moreOrdered two 16 oz prime ribs rare. Waitress said they have rare. Received bread nice salad other than blue cheese dressing watered down. Received our dinners nice presentation. Prime Rib overcooked looked very very dry almost looked liked the edges were freezer burned. Cut into the meat grainy and dry no rub or salty flavorful edge. Meat dry absolutely no taste the aju had absolutely no taste. Thought meat was over boiled pot roast. The asparagus tasted weird. Waitress came to check how our food was and told her this is the worst prime rib we ever had. One full plate was not even touched. Waitress left and didn’t come back. She finally came back when she thought we were done wanting to give us a box and check. I told her we would pay for one meal and not the other only because we ate the potato off one plate and couple bites off the meat. She said she couldn’t do that. Told her wanted to talk with manager, but said manager wouldn’t do that. Told her will dispute on credit card and post on Yelp. She took the one plate away then came back and said she will just bill for one meal. Our bill was $36.00 for a garbage meal. We paid $40.00 and left. Terrible Terrible meal and poor response from waitress. Can’t believe this Yelp...
Read moreFun atmosphere with the tables inside individual "jail cells". Excellent, fast, friendly, service. Our steaks were great. I had the 12oz ribeye and wife had the fillet mignon, with loaded baked potato each and a soup for wife and garden salad for me.
Very fresh and tasty salad. Soup was the spinach and potato and was very good.
My steak was a large, fairly thin ribeye with good char. I asked for rare, and it was slightly overcooked but still tasty, with great marbling.
The only small negative to me was the loaded baked potato. While well cooked and with nice extras and well loaded, it was smothered in that processed synthetic type cheese. For a $30 steak, I would have expected natural cheese on my potato. But the overall mean taste was very good.
The wine selection was limited but with some very high end price options. We chose the merlot and Riesling house wines by the glass and they were fine.
Overall, we were very happy with our meal and service and would come again if passing through Ely again.
A few small adjustments and I'd highly recommend this unusual and...
