Very rude and disrespectful ( issues with handicapped people ? )
We booked a two Queens suite for 2 nights for labor day weekend. Check in starts at 3 PM and we were there at 3:02. We were in line for about 30 minutes until it was our turn. Then we were told, none of the rooms are ready on level 4,5 and 6, we have staff issues
We asked the lady "Why not make an announcement to the people in line so they don't have to wait ( my wife has a handicap and can not stand that long". The answer we received was "I treat you courteous so please treat me the same"... She was clearly annoyed.
We were told to get out of line because no rooms were ready. She would call us when they were. Literally 1 minute later we were called "all rooms are ready now".... Wow, what a miracle, and all that in 1 minute.
So we got the keys, got our luggage and went to our room on the 4th floor. Instead of a 2 Queen suite it was a 1 Queen room with an annex with 2 single beds. Because of my wife's handicap ( and mine ) we needed a 2 Queen room. That is what we reserved months ahead and have payed for. We asked for another room.... there were none. We asked if they could check with other hotels in Ely... they told us that there were no rooms in Ely left at all due to labor day. We asked if we could get a refund and leave. The answer was, yes, but consider before you decide as the room will be gone in a snap. ( oh and by the way, they blamed the booking agent for booking the wrong room ) So we went online and found another room at La Quinta in under 5 minutes.
When we went downstairs the lady that promised the refund was gone and a co-worker called Trisha or Trista said she knew nothing about a refund. She grabbed the paperwork from my wife's hands, dropped it on a desk and started to do other things. My wife asked if she could call the manager but received the answer "No, he is not available " After another wait she came back and said "It is refunded but I can't print anything" When we asked our paper back with the request to write down that it was refunded with her name, she got annoyed, wrote it and walk away looking extremely annoyed. We decided to just walk out but but could hear her say to a co-worked. "Go and check that room because I want to know what those people did with it".
Very classy people, very classy.
We are experienced travelers and have traveled from Europe to the US 26 times in recent years so we know about hotel hospitality and what it should be. Hotel Nevada & Gambling Hall is a great historical monument and we hoped for the service level we became used too every time we visited this wonderful country. As for the service given in this Hotel, it is not the great...
Read moreWell, now, let me spin you a yarn about the charming town of Ely, Nevada.
In the heart of the rugged Nevada desert, nestled amidst the sagebrush and shimmering heat, lies the town of Ely. Now, Ely ain't your ordinary town, no sir. It's got a character all its own, just like the folks who call it home.
You see, back in the days of yore, Ely was a bustling mining town, with prospectors and fortune-seekers flocking from near and far. Silver and copper flowed like the mighty rivers of the West, and the town thrived with the clinking of shovels and the rumble of mine carts.
But life in Ely wasn't all about the riches hidden beneath the earth. Oh no, the folks in Ely knew how to have a good time too. They'd gather 'round the saloons, swapping tall tales and sipping on their favorite libations. And when the fiddle started playing, well, that's when the real fun began. The whole town would kick up their heels and dance the night away, forgetting their worries and reveling in the joy of the moment.
Now, Ely may be a small town, but it's got a big heart. The people here look out for one another, lending a helping hand in times of need. They know the value of community, and they take pride in their town's rich history and heritage.
And let me tell you, the sights around Ely are something to behold. From the majestic peaks of the nearby mountains to the vast stretches of untouched wilderness, there's no shortage of natural beauty to feast your eyes upon. And if you're lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of a wild mustang galloping through the sagebrush, a symbol of the untamed spirit that runs deep in these parts.
So, my friend, if you ever find yourself wandering through the great state of Nevada, do yourself a favor and pay a visit to Ely and the Hotel Nevada. Immerse yourself in its history, soak up its charm, and let the spirit of the Wild West carry you away. You won't be...
Read moreI've stayed at several casino hotels over the years, including a few in small, remote Nevada towns. Typically, cheap Nevada casino hotel rooms come with the bare minimum amenities. That was NOT the case at Hotel Nevada in Ely.||All of the staff are very friendly, including the maintenance dude who chatted with me in the elevator. The room was a reasonable rate, and one of the cheapest rooms in town. From the outside, the building looks old - it is a historic building in a historic mining town. Yet, I saw active paint work occurring on the outside during my stay. And the inside rooms are fully renovated with modern furnishings.||The bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The AC worked well, and was supported by a cool, modern looking ceiling fan. The bathroom was tight, but fully remodeled. (The size is probably due to the age of the building). The room itself was sufficiently spacious and there were two chairs for sitting. WiFi was also sufficiently fast, especially for the remote location. Free basic breakfast from Denny's and a free basic drink from the casino bar were added bonuses to an already high value stay.||Only two concerns, neither of which warranted dropping my rating. First, there was no microwave or fridge in my room. There was a fridge in the room across the hall, so perhaps you just have to ask. But I'm not sure why this can't come standard. And second, be sure to return your keys to the front desk at checkout, as there is a $5 fee for not doing so. (I've never seen that before... That's an unusual thing to charge a fee for).||Otherwise, very excellent stay! I'll definitely return if I'm ever passing...
