The rental company is completely indifferent to any issues that arise and can affect your vacation. We specifically rented a house with a heated pool for the kids to enjoy this year since Sept is historically cooler. Only to get there and the heating pump be BROKEN and never fixed while we were there. We were told "well it worked yesterday when we tested it!" The part never arrived, we were there for a total of 7 days. We had to call each time to check on progress, they didn't even have the decency of communication. We paid a premium for this house BECAUSE it has the option of a heated pool (many do not in this neighborhood, we know because we went to each house that does last year specifically to pick this house for this year), they could not have cared less. No attempts to make it right, no attempts to remedy, just shrugged shoulders that "these things happen." For $8,000 for 1 week, these things should NOT happen or at minimum a pro-rated rate should have been honored.
Also, belongings went missing from our driveway moments after their team pulled the trash bin up to the street. At first we gave benefit of the doubt maybe they thought it was trash? Nope, we were told we were the first people to "ever" accuse their team of theft.... so if it wasn't them it could have been the numerous other people using our driveway as a public access to the beach. If you want a fully private house, driveway included, DO NOT RENT WISHING WHALE. All the houses from the cul-de-sac used OUR driveway to access the beach the ENTIRE week. Not one day went by that a stranger wasn't strolling down our driveway to cut through to the next door house's beach access. Either way, feels like a rental/community issue as we leave things outside every single year, and never ever had anything stolen from us. This is the first year we've had strangers meandering in our driveway. Seems suspicious. We thought this was a safe community. At other homes we used to leave the doors unlocked during the day for ease of the family, NOT AT THIS HOUSE, NOT WITH A BABY SLEEPING INSIDE AND STRANGERS ACCESSING OUR DRIVEWAY ALL DAY.
We will be returning to EI Realty where they actually care about their renters and ensure our vacation and money is very well spent. It's a shame, we had a great 6 summer run with Spinnakers and would have had 30 more. But the bad taste in our mouth has us wanting nothing to do with this entire community. When I arrived my parents - who rented the property for the week - there were problems with the HVAC unit. The downstairs was ice cold, while the upstairs was easily in the mid 80s. When they arrived, the house was already at 84 degrees.
The first night was hot and humid. Not what you'd expect to pay for a few thousand dollars for a week long rental. Everyone was uncomfortable - from a 94 year old woman to a 1 year old boy. Waking up humid from sweating because the AC isn’t working isn’t a good start to a vacation.
What made it worse, is that we called and left messages for management on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Maintenance had come over to try to fix the problem and had told us that this was now the second time in as many weeks that there was a problem with their air-conditioning unit. So it was clear that this was a problem last week but that it wasn’t resolved properly. When we spoke to someone from management on Tuesday, they had told us that this was the first time that they ever heard of this problem. That response lack integrity and was insulting to our intelligence. They then tried to let us know that getting approval from the owner to pay for necessary repairs could take time. It would’ve been great to know that had they return the call within the first 24 hours of us letting them know that there was an issue. The fact that we had to escalate this was a problem.

   Read moreTerrible experience at Emerald Isle. Rented the Barracuda I and the HVAC unit upstairs was broken upon arrival. It was 82 degrees for 3 nights and 4 days. Despite renting for a week, I decided to leave after 3 nights of sleeping in over 80 degree temperatures. My wife (we are expecting, my 1 year old and 2 other sons slept in uncomfortable temperatures each night. We informed the realty company after the first night and after the 2nd night they finally sent a HVAC repairman out to the unit. After waiting a few hours for his arrival, he told me his partner was out at our unit a few days before and told them the unit was not working. I guess the realty company and the owner decided to not do anything about it. After finally “fixing” the unit - he did tell me he was going to the realty office and recommend it be replaced. That evening it did not work, and again we slept in 82 degree heat. Each day we informed the office about the issue. After 3 nights into a weeklong stay, I think it’s about time to pack it up. I am an attorney and own rental property. If my realty company responded in this manner to my renters, I would definitely look at replacing them. I will not be staying in any of their properties moving forward, and I am recommending to those that I know to move forward with...
