Goodwill Store & Donation Center — Local services in Englewood

I am extremely dissatisfied with this store. Today I experienced a physical threat by another costumer and when I tried to express my need for help, I was blamed and harassed by the managers. I am a senior white woman with my Asian American grandson and for some unknown reason, I was physically accosted by a white middle aged man. I was standing in the aisle looking at items and and I heard an “excuse me!” in a loud and harsh tone. I looked up and felt this man brush by me impatiently only to then stand right in front of my cart to block me. He did not have a cart and had plenty of room to pass us.

I was surprised by his rudeness and close proximity, I said excuse me and that’s when he lit into me calling me rude and told me that I was standing in the middle of the aisle. I told him that he was too close and needed to give me some space and then he got right in my face and started shouting. I told him firmly to back away and him started to walk away. He kept harassing me as he walked off and I called him a piece of work and told him to stay the hell away from us. At that point a clerk stepped up and said he would kick us both out and as I tried to explain what had happened. He would not listen and called for a manager. The manager was also unwilling to listen even when I told her that I felt threatened. Another employee stepped in and insisted we leave. I got my grandson out of the cart and headed towards the door with the two unidentified store employees following me out. On the way out they called the police and began insist that I wait for the Police to arrive.

I left because I wanted to protect my Grandson from this ugliness. As far as I could tell the man who started this mess had no consequence for his actions and we were harassed as we were just trying to leave. My Grandson is only three years old and I can’t help but think that this could have been racially motivated.

I feel that I need to document this in the hopes that someone else can be spared from this horrible aggression and humiliation...

Stopped by here on a Tuesday afternoon, this goodwill is very well stocked and had a lot of cool pieces from the 2000s and modern pieces. However, this goodwill is in dire need of some changes. First of all, the prices were ridiculous. I know that this is not an issue specific to this goodwill but is now an issue at all goodwills, but it still needs to change. I go to goodwill to get a good deal, not to spend an arm and a leg on some ratty tank top that probably cost less to begin with. Secondly, the fitting rooms were closed due to “staffing shortage” and there was only one mirror in the whole store. They do accept returns, however, only for store credit and I would prefer not to have to make a return and to know my clothes fit prior to purchasing them, especially for the high prices! even half off, most items were overpriced in my opinion. Also, they have bathrooms that look as if they are meant to be public, but they did not let my 80yr old grandmother use the bathroom, causing us to have to leave early. I know there are a lot of addicts in the area, but that’s not really an excuse to lack basic amenities. Furthermore, the racks were overstuffed and things were not in their correct size sections. Well Goodwill can be a great place. This place is not. Spent over an hour and a half looking through dresses only to find out they do not have a fitting room. Since we are not local they do credit if you return the items. Yet there's no need for credit if we're not local. So we had wasted a whole hour and a half looking for dresses. So from now on I'm going to make sure before I even look at anything if they have fitting rooms. If they do not have fitting room then it is unlikely we will ever shop at a thrift store. Thank you for the terrible service. This used to be a great location when we would stop in town. This specific Goodwill location did not have anything really Sorted by size. Which is the reason why we spent an hour and a half sorting dresses. To better serve the community, thriftwood should fort their clothing by size. The other thing that I would recommend is teaching the people who put clothing on hanger to place them the correct way. The correct way if the same way every single time.
