I've been popping in and out of this place since it opened, and it's went from something we were quite excited about conceptually, to a rather disappointing way to spend our time. A few things:
-Seemingly no stock rotation. If something gets bought, they put something new in its place, but there's been a cheese wheel warmer (huh?) in there in the same spot almost literally since the store has opened, and tested appliances have test dates from last year as well. I am not complaining about them having strange items or testing their electronics - what I am complaining about is the shelf space wasted on things that, clearly, no one is going to buy, that take up a large amount of the store. How long has that wall of eco-friendly house paint been there, for instance? How many other, new things could you fit there? There is no curation outside of 'it works' and seemingly no rotation outside of 'it was sold or it wasn't'.
-There's a few older employees - possibly managers or owners - that lurch around the store constantly and are VERY eager to ask if you need anything. This is more of a personal thing for me, and I recognize that others might like this, but when you get asked 3+ times in the first two minutes of being in the store if you need any help by the same person, especially if they sneak up behind you, you start to feel like you're being watched for theft. Additionally, they sometimes just...sit around in the store's merchandise, which is an odd image. I don't really want to buy a chair I've watched you sit in and stare at me from. It's not exactly a big building, and all the furniture is smack dab in the center of it - it's like a king lording over his estate.
-We really didn't need another thrift store in this area and I think they might've realized that as they're now puzzlingly selling expired food. (Personally, if something I stocked required me to post "YES, THIS IS LEGAL" signs everywhere, I would consider the optics issue at play and decide to not continue to sell it. I would rather go down the block to GrosOut.) You can hock a loogie and hit two other thrift stores literally across the street, one of them also being a charity organization as well. Overstock is what made this store exciting as we don't really have an overstock store that isn't a grocery store, and instead their shelves are full of a bunch of (unfortunately overpriced) thrift goods.
It seems like they really do a lot of good work in the community around them, and I'm not impugning them for that by any stretch of the imagination, but the store part of their business just isn't really worth...
Read moreI went in today to return a backpack that I bought 2 days ago. Fortunately the sales associate was there confirming my purchase. Unfortunately, the manager was there and stated without a receipt I would not be able to make the return. The real problem is that they sold me a broken backpack. So in reality they sold me something that was broken but would not let me return it. It wasn’t as if I didn’t like my purchase and changed my mine. It was literally broken and unusable. The manager stated that the owners were coming down really hard on her for making any returns without receipts. So I’m not complaining about the employees doing what they are told. I am posting about a ridiculous policy that does not allow the employees/managers to do their job to the best of their ability. I have been a great customer shopping in this store about 1 time per week since they opened. It’s unfortunate, but I will not go to this store again due to the horrible customer service during this process. I do hope that they take a better approach to this issue in the future for...
