I am very hesitant to leave negative reviews. In fact, I have waited MONTHS to do this for a number of reasons, but it must be done in this case. About 8 months ago, my truck developed a ticking noise. My normal mechanic had recently retired, so after reading positive reviews, and with the bonus of being located within walking distance to my home, I selected North Eugene Automotive. I was greeted on the phone by a friendly lady, who quickly made an appointment for me. I dropped off my truck on the appointed day and time, and walked home. By the time I got home (or within 30 minutes) I had a message that they were done. I walked back and they told my my motor was toast, and it would be $11k to replace it. I asked how they determined that so quickly, and was told the mechanic cut open the oil filter and it was FULL of metal shavings. I asked if I could see the filter, and they said they had already disposed of it. I didn't say anything, but paid and took my truck home. What I did not tell them was that I already knew they were lying, because I had the oil changed days earlier- it was a brand new oil filter, and no metal shavings were present when that was done, and it had not been driven since. I intended to go get a second opinion, but since I had another option for transportation, I parked it and moved on. A month or 2 later a mechanic friend who lives out of state stopped in unexpectedly, and I told him my story. He asked if he could give it a quick listen. It still sounded exactly the same, but he immediately scowled and asked if I had a long screwdriver. He placed it on different parts of the engine with the handle against his ear, and in less than 2 minutes said it was not my motor at all- it was my flex plate. A few days later I took it to a new mechanic who said he doubted it was the flex plate, but agreed to take a look. Sure enough, the flex plate was trashed. It only cost $700 to replace it. At first I brushed it off as an honest mistake, because even I had feared the worst- but it is the oil filter lie that kept nagging me. Maybe he truly thought it had a bent rod or bad bearings or whatever- but rather than do any further research, he assumed he knew by the sound and lied about checking the filter. I have since had the oil changed again (twice) with no metal shavings present, and my truck still runs like a top without a single tick since replacing the flex plate.

Brian and his staff were very helpful and friendly. They're very knowledgeable about many different types of cars. I wouldn't hesitate to bring in either of our cars for service or repair work. They did a pre purchase inspection on a truck I was thinking about buying and they found some significant problems. Using their findings and the written estimate for repair I was able to negotiate with the seller to get those items fixed before i bought the truck. If Brian hadn't found the problems I would've been on the hook for the repairs. A hundred dollar PPI saved me at least a thousand dollars and I couldn't be happier, thanks again!

North Eugene Automotive has been my reliable, skilled and generous go to for all of my automotive care for the past 30 plus years. The business has maintained this quality of excellence by within shop management/ownership transition years ago to Brian Slater for which I am grateful. Carol Bakkensen of Lovinese Family.

The people I interacted with at the shop were very sweet and I appreciated the shops client interface where they included photos of all the things that need fixing (I appreciate having a visual reference rather than taking someone at their word because a woman, I’ve been lied to by mechanics countless times before). During their routine inspection of everything with the vehicle, they noted my air filters needed to be changed. I declined the service and picked up filters to change myself. I swapped out my cabin air filter for the dirty one no problem, but imagine my surprise when I look at the engine air filter cover and notice none of the clips are closed… I open the cover and there’s no air filter! They noted my engine air filter was dirty and got a picture of it and then proceeded to forget to put it back in after I declined to have them change it for me. I understand everyone is human and mistakes happen, but I shudder to think how much dirt could have gotten into my freshly switched oil had I not gone to replace the filter before my upcoming trip. I would bring my car back here, but would now feel the need to double check everything before driving off the lot…

Updated: I returned to have my front and rear suspension worked on and everyone at the shop was so communicative and helpful and thorough. Last visit was just a fluke and I’ll definitely be coming back here for all...

I had my car towed to this auto repair shop on a referral and within a couple of hours, I received a text with a detailed order of the necessary repairs and their costs. The professional approach was impressive. The estimate included all the necessary work, along with a list of additional things that could be done, and their urgency—whether they needed immediate attention or could wait.

My job was a big one, but my car was ready in two days. When I arrived, the owner, Brian, was at the desk. He was professional and humble, it was clear he had a strong work ethic. I knew right away that this would be my go-to spot for car repairs and maintenance. A few days later, I had to get something else fixed, and the process was just as seamless. I had my car back the next day.

The shop is clean, the customer service representative is incredibly helpful in navigating any issues. Brian and his team are doing a fantastic job. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for an honest repair shop that works with integrity. I was kept in the loop about what needed to be done, with no surprises or extra costs. My experience was a feeling of thankfulness that I found somewhere honest, where I know my car is well...
