Heroines and Heroes — Local services in Evanston Township

An unexpectedly cool local gaming and comics store in Wilmette. I really want to support it, but I've not had the greatest experiences the half dozen or so times I've gone there in the last two years.

A few times I've tried to order Pathfinder books here (their stock tends to be a little spotty). Twice I've given them my information, and then they just never contacted me. Another time I was the only person in the store, and had to stand there in front of the cash register waiting for about ten minutes for a couple of employees to finish talking and acknowledge me. Again, I tried to order a Pathfinder book through them, and they basically told me "we don't have that." Well, yes, I could see that from its absence in your shelves . . .

A few days ago I was walking by and decided to stop in and see if they'd have a Pathfinder book on release day later that week, and if so, if I could pre-order it. I got "I'm not sure. We usually have to order those two or three months in advance. Check back after it comes out."

Lesson learned: just order from Amazon or...

I take the train every morning to commute and this shop is located close by the WIlmette Union Pacific North Metra station. I sometimes shop and browse when I have time to spare, and its a great experience. The staff is great, very willing to answer questions. Selection is great! They have casual board games, stuff like Warhammer, and TCGs, including some that are hard to find in your generic Target. Im not huge on Manga so I can’t really judge their stock of it but it looks pretty encompassing to an outsider. Comic selection is also great, with lots of stuff for Superhero fans and kids. This place is incredible - a few board game shops have been popping up in the area, but this is by far the best of them. The board games on sale are excellently curated - no filler stuff, just really solid board games. Whether you're looking for something casual, a hardcore historical title, or something in between, you'll find it.
