I took a five week adult darkroom photography class at Evanston Art Center. It was a wonderful experience!
They provided a comfortable infrastructure for learning. We had the right amount of space and equipment for the class size so we only had to share certain specialized tools and sometimes say "excuse me."
It was obvious that the instructor, Brennan, had taught this course before (in a good way). He approached every session with an agenda and structure that was familiar to him, but always made time for individual student interactions. He offered me vital feedback as often as I requested it, and I was not the exception among my classmates.
I'm satisfied with the skills that I've started to develop through this class. I'm satisfied with the art that it helped me create.
I would absolutely recommend this to a friend.
Two extra nice things about the Evanston Art Center:
Free on-site parking

Read moreI came here to meet a friend. There’s this Kafkan form I had to fill out and take my own temperature. The form told me to tell the staff member what my temperature was. I told the desk lady. She said “fill out the form” and waved her hand at me dismissively. She sounded like Jeanine from the Ghost Busters. The good one. If you want to encapsulate the end of open democratic society in one interaction it’s that. The art is okay. Nice Fantasia-like colors. Did you know the illustrators for Fantasia had to invent almost all the colors they used because no one had done...
Read moreThe EAC was one of my favorite spots as a child. It provided a welcome escape from my traditional primary school and I still remember teachers I had twenty years later. I have recently started classes there again as an adult and I am so glad I did. Though the location isn’t the same (I loved the old EAC in the mansion by lighthouse beach), the new building is really nice and has all sorts of tools and materials for students. Both of my current teachers are great and I’ve already signed up for another class! Great little gallery too that’s free and open...
