Robert Crown Community Center — Local services in Evanston Township

What is going with this place gatekeeping, singling out, and making assumptions towards people of color? I went on the ice to practice ice and a white blonde woman raced over to me and asked acussingly if I was supposed to be there. I told her yes, why? She responded that some people get confused between practice and public skate. I replied to her that I was not confused and before she could do that patronizing sing song half ass apology voice to prove they aren't racist and just concerned I skated away from her to warm up. She stared daggers at me still not convinced until my coach that day arrived on the ice. She finally left me alone as the coach was well known. When pair skaters who were white came on the ice after me she said nothing to them didn't even look their way. I was of course stunned. YES, I did check with the front desk to make sure I was at the right ice sheet rink before I entered. Why are white people so territorial at a PUBLIC ice rink? I was the only black woman there along with a mixed raced lady there as well. The rest were all white. I see why theres little to no black people or other people of color on the ice. Even in public skate. We are clearly not welcomed and they make that known quickly. Finding a different ice rink from now on when my pass is up. In 2025 it is ridiculous we are still being treated this way!!!! We POC just want to skate and we have just as much of a right to be here as white people. Now I know how Mabel Fairbanks felt...

I signed my daughter up for several camps this summer and paid with a check. I had to change her camps around to fit my schedule and ended up over paying. I have been waiting for a refund for My daughter’s camps for over 2 months. I wrote a check and still haven’t received my refund check back. I then enrolled my daughter in free skate camp over the phone and the registrar didn’t tell me it was for higher level skaters. On the first day of ice skating camp I received a call from the ice skating instructor Vicky and was told my daughter wasn’t at the level and people don’t read that this camp is for higher level skaters. Of course I didn’t read anything if I registered over the phone. Inconveniently I had to leave work to pick my daughter up. Now I have another refund that I will NEVER get. I asked Jill Silverman the office coordinator for help on getting my refund and she said there was nothing she could do to help me. I told her I am a single mom with 3 kids and she still didn’t try to help me. All this money I have spent on these Robert Crown camps have gone down the drain. They are soo quick to take your money and they won’t make it a priority to return it. All I am asking for is for someone to help me track my refund but there is no one to call for help. What a...

Ive been coming to Robert Crown 👑 community center for a couple days 🙂 now, and I've really enjoyed being here, it's Free showers 😁 and vending machines that I like, and everyone here is really great at being to their self, I'd like to continue to be here, there's a library, and an ice skating rink. There's a basketball 🏀 gym, and track running Lane, there's also meet rooms for birthday 🎈 or other professional use, there's Lost and found and events for people to participate. There's a DJ skating event I'd like to see how it'll be, very thankful for Robert Crown 👑. Ive also learned how impactful Robert Crown 👑 community center is for me going forward 😔, I'm hoping it'll be fun...
