So disappointed
I drove from Michigan, thrilled at the idea that I would finally find a fabric store with actual fabric. I expected to find a store with fabric arrayed for my delight, colors galore, shop-able, staffed with knowledgeable fabric geeks.
Instead I found a store with bolts of fabric piled with no apparent order. Aisles less than 2 feet wide. No carts of any kind, so that selecting more than one or two bolts of fabric becomes problematic.
Apparently each of 4 parts of the store are separate. Items selected in one section must be paid for in that section before they can be removed from that section. Patterns (non-returnable) for example, must be bought and paid for before you can take them into the fabric area.
Saddest of all is the employee attitude. Sullen is the only word I can think of to describe it. With the exception of one young lady in the Upholstery portion of the store, I was never greeted, my greetings went unacknowledged, and in fact until I asked for help, no one even met my eyes.
My business is similar to Vogue Fabrics. We also sell a craft product that is hard to find in large selections. We have a selection that customers will travel far to visit, as far as Australia or Kuwait. We are experts in our field, and our customers expect us to share our expertise. If I treated my customers the way I was treated at Vogue, I would be out of business in a heartbeat.
Due to the uncomfortable atmosphere and difficulty in shopping at Vogue, I bought less than half of the material I intended to. I may or may not do mail order business with Vogue, although I find the website to be clumsy and primitive, but I will surely not drive the 442 miles to Evanston and back, just to be able to see and feel the...
Read moreA portal to the world of fabrics. Vogue fabrics is more of an institution than a store. In it's current location since 1945. It occupies three quarters of a block. My introduction to this world came with my lady friend who would buy specialized fabric not by the yard but the bolt. You had to know fabric and what you are looking for to benefit from coming here. Clothes or decor. Usage and purpose. Types of fabrics. More than silks, polyesters, rayon, cotton. Warmth, durability, how it hangs. Colors, patterns. Nuance, subtlety in fabric variations beyond type. How sheer. How ornate. Thread count. Trimmings like hook and loop, ribbons, buttons, zippers. If it's home decor, is it drapes, upholstery, cushions, covers? You must do your homework. Get pictures of things like what you want. Maybe a swatch of what you want if matching color or fabric. They are willing and able to help with any project. There is a universe of possibilities, and all the accoutrements to help you make them a reality. There are bargains to be had at the remnant section. They offer sewing classes, sell sewing equipment. Not just sewing machines but basics like different types of scissors. Rippers. Thread you didn't know was available. Everything you could want for that special finishing touch. If all that is not enough, what's great about this store? Whether you are a do-it-yourself person, or need a project completed they can help you. Labor prices can change depending on your vision. This is where you can realize your dreams, whatever they are, no matter how large or small. Wedding dress, that perfect upholstery, chair covers. Anything. Everything. And get knowledgeable friendly help. It starts with a little effort from you. An...
Read moreBad service , shipped the wrong item, I drove to exchange it, 2 hours of my time in total, I didn’t complain or ask for any discount, credit or anything. In that shipped order I received 15yds of muslin, which came flawed, a white line 24” in from salvage, on both sides. Fabric was 108” wide because it was needed for a big piece, so I didn’t have a way to cut around the lines. I called, and the manager is charging me 20% restocking fee on something I paid wholesale price for a premium fabric, not second grade material. Her response was that it was the manufacture fault, that they don’t inspect the whole sale fabrics, which I understand, but why couldn’t she exchange the roll without charging me… I had cut 5 yds off it when I noticed because it’s folded so it’s hard to see, ok I understand but there was no willingness to help me but to charge me for there bad quality fabric roll… not even when they had sent the wrong item coming in the same shipment and I used my time to correct it, the manager Ish has no customer service in her, it seems that she is there to make sure they don’t loose a penny, not really caring to build a strong tie with clients… I felt that I was being punished for buying wholesale, I have been in business for 30 years and when I got a fabric that had flaws the company would take responsibility for it and replace it or try to accommodate me because that is good customer service… a shame to a company that has been there for...
