Kingston Grill — Restaurant in Evanston Township

This is my favorite Jamaican restaurant in the whole Illinois! The food is so good! I go almost everyday for the soup but it's a must that I get the soup on Fridays and Saturdays!! The rice and peas are cooked perfect and the Pattie's use to be burnt up but nowadays they improved on that. The Pattie's are perfect now. My complaints would be the jerk chicken. It's literally baked chicken and the sauce isn't jerk idk what it is but it ain't jerk. It's sweet and thick like bbq sauce mixed with jerk sauce idk but it's not good. The tilapia which is my favorite dish there 🤤is always sold out early and I don't understand why they cant make more than what they are making. Maybe they can't afford it idk. Also the oxtail is all bones every time I get it. Don't waste your time with the oxtail. But trust me get the soup! They make a MEAN soup it is soooo good omg!! The ladies at the register, depending on who it is they are a little rude. They need to tell them to smile a lot more in my opinion and just be a little bit more lively. They just seem like they don't want to really be there. It makes people nervous and uncomfortable. You walk up to the register with a smile thinking you'll get a smile back and they just look at you like you're crazy. They need customer service training bad. Every single person I know that goes there says the comment the register have a bad attitude and it's true. I stopped going for a long time cuz they had one girl in there a couple years ago that was so rude and so off putting. Her attitude was unprofessional. I've ordered from this restaurant on GrubHub several times in 2022, because I liked their jerk shrimp stir fry.

Earlier this year I went in to the restaurant and ordered a jerk chicken lunch special. I was saddened that the chicken wasn't made fresh; there wasn't actually any chicken cooking when I went into the restaurant.

Today I ordered 12 wings and jerk shrimp stir fry from GrubHub. I could not believe that they actually filled the order for wings with wing zings! That is not a chicken wing! That's not the size of a chicken wing, and every wing zing does not have the 3 pieces of an actual wing. So to charge me $15 for little wing zings is outlandish.

Then, I'm pretty sure that the wing zings were re-cooked because some of them were charred burnt and they drowned them in sauce to attempt to conceal how burnt they were.

With regard to the shrimp stir fry, I requested the Jamaican rice and peas as a side. They gave me white rice with some kind of pea, but there were less than 20 peas, whatever kind they were.

I have never ordered rice and peas at a jerk chicken restaurant and been given white rice with a couple handfuls of peas (I mean you can literally count the number of peas in the platter). I'm used to receiving red beans (I know they aren't kidney beans) and rice when I order rice and peas from a jerk chicken restaurant.

I'm not going to be able to order from them again. I understand that the price of everything has increased, but cheating and deceiving customers isn't the right way to save a buck. I would rather pay a higher price and receive a quality entree consisting of what I actually ordered, than to pay a lower price and be wondering what in the world they have filled my...

Previous Review... I have eaten here several times and spent a lot of money at this restaurant. On my latest visit, I called my order in 45min ahead of time. I ordered a Whole Chicken Jerk Dinner, a Beef Patty, and Side of Macaroni. When I got to the restaurant the Macaroni was not ready, so I waited another 5 min at the restaurant. Even gave a $2 tip when I paid for my order. And then when I got home I noticed I only had a Half chicken Jerk Dinner.

The restaurant wasn't busy at all, and the girl behind the counter was sitting there the whole time while I waited for the Macaroni, and never double checked my order.

Its really bad because I don't have the time to go back to the restaurant. I just suggest you check your food before leaving the restaurant if you order here. I hate leaving bad reviews but my hard earned money isn't valued at...
