I am new to table top\war games. My step son has gotten me into it, and honestly I find 40k enthralling. The lore, the different factions, the gritty and darkness to it all. So, I heard about this store just a couple weeks ago from another shop owner. I gathered up my stepson, my nephew, and their cousin and stopped in. The Manager was so awesome, she was knowledgeable, kind, patient, and so helpful to 1 that was brand new and looking to buy his first units. I can't say enough great things about this store, but more about it's store manager. We are planning to schedule a date to learn to play out first games. We are all excited for it. (UPDATE) OK, it has been 3 months or so since this review. The learning session went great, even while running a store, and deal with our party of 6 (2 of which, knew absolutely nothing about the game) .... That being said they stuck with us and we all learned a lot, they were beyond patient and most of all seemed eager to teach us. Over the last 3 months my home has turned into the place to play Warhammer. With my step son, nephews, and I always finding a reason to run a match or 2. My 5\6 yr old has his own tyranid army, he paints now too, he loves it. We are now regulars at our store. I don't think I would want to go anywhere else. It's the manager that makes us feel welcomed and keeps us informed, eeehhhh she may even coax us into sales but I can't even be mad lol. If anyone has the chance to go to the Evansville Warhammer Store, I suggest stopping in. Some pictures of our family's models painted...
Read moreI’ve been mildly curious about 40k for some time now. And LGS’ always intimidated me when it came to asking for help in figuring out where to start in what I know is a massive world of lore and mechanics. It’s hard as a women to approach a male dominated hobby/game and find a safe space to learn the process. The Evansville warhammer store did exactly that and honestly my only complaint is that it’s in Evansville and I’m not!
The store manager was one of the most welcoming people I’ve met and it starts the minute you walk through her doors. That’s right. I said HER doors. I was floored to see a woman not only employed at an LGS targeted to 40k but MANAGING it. Her and I got to talking and my excitement for the hobby, and ease at learning this complex system of lore and mechanics grew as she thoughtfully and slowly helped me work my way through the entire store answering each and every question I had. Multiple times I felt really dumb for asking some of the questions I did and she never once indicated that my feelings were true and when I would say I felt dumb she would reassure me.
The store is well organized, well stocked, and anything they don’t have you can order from a convenient little kiosk right there (which of course staff are more than happy to help you use). The manager truly makes everyone feel welcome regardless of experience level, gender, or sexual orientation. It was so refreshing to find a queer, newbie, and feminine friendly space. I will definitely be returning to this store on all future...
Read moreGood selection of minis, and the staff is knowledgeable about games workshop stuff for sure, but the prices on gw stuff are ridiculous. There are other game stores in town just as knowledgeable, and while they may not be a focused on just gw stuff, they do offer lower prices on warhammer merchandise. Feel like this store is really gonna have to turn it up to 11 to draw gamers away from the more established local...
