Don't Place Special Orders Here Or Schedule Contracting Work Based On Their Promised Delivery
While the employees in store who assisted us were mostly helpful, I found the Window Department to be completely out of touch with the special order process - or at least there was a failure in communicating what my expectations should be.
I inquired about a custom window. We worked up my order and I asked about the purchase/build/delivery process. The man helping me build my order called over 2 other employees to confirm how long the window company would take to build & deliver my custom window. All three men said this particular company was running 1.5-2 weeks on orders like this. I placed my order the next night.
After completing the order, I was given a sheet saying estimated delivery (with no guarantee) was 3 weeks away. I immediately stopped the window employee and asked about the date, explaining that 3 employees told me the night prior that it would only be 1.5-2 weeks.
He then brought over another employee, and both confirmed together that it was simply an estimate and that the window builder would get it here much sooner. I trusted them (my first mistake). I then scheduled our contractor to install the window for a date two weeks later.
Long story short, it was nearly 4 weeks before the window was delivered to the store. While I found Thomas helpful on tracking down our window starting on the 11th day.... it proved unhelpful as the window company completed the build then let our window sit in the warehouse for another week and a half. Then the actual delivery took 4 days longer than expected on top of the warehouse delay. Every update from the window company was a complete lie and no one (other than Thomas) was helping our order get on a truck as promised.
This completely blew our kitchen renovation, as the window needed installed before another 5 contractors could do their work. Our window was $440 - not cheap. I would have NEVER spent that amount of money or scheduled out my contractors like I did without the false information given at every stage of the special order process.
We won't ever buy anything from a Menards unless we can't get it at Home Depot and it is a product we take home at the time...
Read moreNice store with a good selection. They sell some food and junk not normally found in a hardware store, and that is nice.
Unfortunately, they employ this trick where the prices are above average, but they offer an 11% rebate. So, the customer is expected to fill out a rebate and deal with that hassle - every time you buy anything. The rebate is in the form of a store credit, not cash back. If you forget, or don't want to hassle with the rebate, then you just overpaid for your items. It would be so much easier for everyone if the store just lowered the prices by 11% and stop harassing the customers.
At most hardware stores, if you return something without a receipt, you just give your credit card to the clerk, they look it up, and do the return all at once. Quick and easy.
Not here. At Menards, you must wait in line to use the self-service computer and look up the receipt yourself. Then, you must wait in the return line to actually do the return. Employees say they are unable to look up a receipt, and customers MUST use the self-service computer. When I visited, I was the only customer in the return area. I told them that I was unwilling to use the self-service computer and asked if they could look up my receipt for me. They refused.
When you return items here, it takes several days before the refund appears in your bank. At competing stores, the refund appears the same day. This may not be a big problem, but it is another to avoid this place.
I like the selection here, but because I don't like the rebate trickery and the returns hassle, I will always visit the other hardware...
Read moreI live 45 minutes from The Fairfield store. I find it kind of silly to go that far to spend my money with gasoline prices being tacked on to the price of shopping there, With that being said, I must agree with the person who said that electric carts for shopping just aren't available. In my age group I find that it's just not smart at all to not have them. Most home repairs are done on older homes. Many times these homes are lived in by older people. It is just common sense that your company will recoup the cost of these machines in sales. I have many many times wanted to come from my Cleves Ohio home to get what I need, but opted out due to my permanent back injury and your wonderful large stores size. Please take into consideration us disabled folk, and the need for electric shopping carts, which will not have to be pushed by someone who likely has no desire to push someone through a large store. AND if one is unable to browse around in your great store, the sales that you might have gotten will be not done. Thank you in advance for your intelligent decision to provide several more carts as Lowe's and Home Depot does. And in addition...I am in increased pain due to walking around in the store on Friday. This weekend is down for me, but I DO have the paint and lights that I plan to put up as soon as I recuperate or find someone else to do it because of the pain from walking...
