To say that Rainy Day Books went above and beyond for me is an understatement!
Almost a year ago I was on a hunt for a difficult to find book. The book came up under Rainy Day Books' website. I had never been to their shop before but I emailed them to see if they happened to have the book and they politely responded that they did not. I thanked them, thinking that would be the end of it, but to my surprise I got a follow up email from Lisa saying that she did some digging and found out you could order a copy of the book I was looking for direct from the publisher via donation.
I cannot stress enough that Lisa went out of her way to track down a way that I could find this book even though I was not an existing customer and it didn't directly benefit their shop. She was under no obligation to dig into that for me, but she did anyway! I'd emailed bookshops/booksellers all over the country but it was Rainy Day Books (which was right down the road from where I lived!) was the one that came through for me.
I ordered the book from the publisher and paid a visit to Rainy Day Books a few weeks after that to actually check out their business. It is a delightful store with a great selection! I also had the pleasure of meeting Lisa in person and was able to thank her for the help.
Thank you Rainy Day Books, I still think of your kindness and help! I'm definitely a fan and...
Read moreIf you're looking for a magical escape into the world of books, Rainy Day Books is Kansas City's top independent gem you shouldn't miss! This charming spot rekindles the joy of reading in a digital age. The shelves display thoughtfully chosen selections, with only one or two copies of each title. The store has a sleek layout featuring burgundy walls and inviting areas for browsing. I visited on a drizzly Saturday, and when I stepped into this bookstore, I felt like I had entered a storybook itself. The inviting brick exterior with its white cupola drew me in. The aroma of fresh ink and paper enveloped me like a warm hug, while soft page rustles and passionate staff recommendations created a lively, intellectual atmosphere. I lost track of time as I searched through the bookshelves for my next read and chatted with staff about other small local shops I should visit. As a busy student, this bookstore reminds me why physical stores matter; they foster community and creativity, which are desperately needed in a time of mass...
Read moreWent for the Stephen Pastis book signing and they were horribly underprepared. I ordered a book for the signing online that day because online it said that copies were still available. When I got there they told me it was sold out when I had placed my order. They gave me the option to get a bookplate signed or do a refund. I was going to get a signed bookplate cause I still wanted to meet him but the line was way too long and was clearly gonna go way over the time the event was supposed to end. I had to leave and cancel my order because I couldn’t stick around that long. Will be using the gift card I have for this place but after that I won’t be spending another penny here. It’s truly just a mid bookstore with nothing that really separates it from other bookstores aside from the signings which they can’t...
