We visited for the first time after being on our list for a while and it surpassed our expectations! First, Keith the GM held the door as we arrived in. We didn’t have a reservation but Summer and other staff let us know we could wait in the lobby. We asked if we could grab a drink at the bar to take while we wait, and she said they’d happily bring one to us!

I ordered the deluxe spicy margarita and loved that it actually had a good spice to it. It is a little pricy though. Patty and Summer AND Keith came to check on us at different times during our wait.

We also had a few friends with who weren’t fully prepared for the style of restaurant and felt underdressed, but everyone treated us SO kindly with no judgment whatsoever.

When we got a spot at the bar the great service continued. Jesse and another bartender (I sadly forgot her name!) were attentive and helpful answering questions on the menu. I got the tomato poblano appetizer and my partner got calamari. For my main I got the chicken sandwich, which was cooked perfectly and came with homemade sweet potato chips.

The space is welcoming and has little personal touches from the owners. I also noticed fresh flowers (roses) here and there, including the restrooms.

My only disappointment was with the dessert. I got the brownie sundae, but the brownies weren’t warm/fresh which was a bummer. The caramel popcorn on top added a nice flavor but it generally felt like something I could have thrown together in a bowl at home. However I complemented dessert with an espresso martini, which is a must-try here!

We very much appreciated the hospitality and attention to detail and can’t wait to...

My wife and I had the worst experience ever at this restaurant. It was her birthday, and I called ahead of time to reserve a table in the dining room for two. Once we showed up, they informed us the only table we had was at the bar between the servers station and the front window by the front door where everybody came in. I was told by a woman manager who was very rude that we would have to wait 45 minutes for the table that I requested because I didn’t talk to her ahead of time. Of course this made us very upset and was a bad start to the night . The food was very small portions and over priced and quite frankly not good at all. Upon leaving I started to feel a little bit weird and feverish. We were both very very sick all night long and I ended up having to go to my doctor the next day and be treated for food poisoning. We ate a lamb special that had pretty much raw lamb in it and a lobster roll on a McDonald’s style bun. Don’t know what gave us the food poisoning and the general manager basically kind of called me a liar when I called in and let him know. So if anybody else was sick, they would know. We left the restaurant hungry and not feeling good at all. When we called the general manager, nothing was done or understood, only excuses were made. Thanks restaurant 1900 you made my wife’s birthday night a real hit! You should consider a different type of business because the fancy building and decorations do not justify any of the service or food that...

Quite expensive but excellent, and very prompt, service. I highly recommend this restaurant/bar, but only if you've a fat wallet because a glass of red burgundy with a small bowl of mixed nuts cost me 16 bucks. 😉

However, I'm also compelled to convey that the wine and mixed nuts were some of the very best I've ever experienced, and the young lady who was greeting customers at the front door was one of the most beautiful young blondes I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, but I don't get out very often, as you've probably guessed by now.

There's plenty of parking available in an aesthetically pleasing three-story parking facility that has electrical car-charging offerred in some of the parking spaces, most of which were open for those in need of a battery charge during my visit between 5 and 6 p.m. on a Wednesday. As I mentioned, the parking facility is quite aesthetically pleasing because it's constructed in such a way as to be partially underground with one side open to the air while the back side is underground with a entry drive at the top floor of the parking structure, relative to the restaurant, and another entryway drive at the bottom on the front of the structure, again relative to the restaurant, and yet another entryway drive at the side to ener the mid-level parking. My apologies for my great lack of...

We have been meaning to try this hidden gem for a while and finally got our shot. Let me jump to the punch line and say that this was one of my top five meals ever. The restaurant itself is understated but sophisticated. Sitting off a corporate parking lot, you might never know it even exists. I have to say the vibe actually works as it’s not in retail craziness and they’ve done a great job of making it a sort of sanctuary. As for the food, it stands with anything I’ve tried across the world. Perfectly prepared with harmonious balance of flavor and texture. We started with the Mushroom Toast and Cashew Cream. From the brininess of the mushrooms to vinegar in the shallots to the slight sweetness of the cashew cream, I was blown away. Next up was the Crispy Pacific Bass. I started with the thinner tail end, which tends to be overcooked, and it was perfection. Add in the garlic confit, tomato ginger broth, and succulent oxtail carnitas, and it was a heavenly explosion of subtle flavors. KC has several unique and amazing eateries, but I would put this at the top of my list if you’re looking for accessible, top-tier dining. Hats off, Chef Duerr!

Veteran diners (and dare I say "foodies") know better than to eat at a restaurant that has recently opened. That said, my wife and I like to make a sport of doing just that in Kansas City with the unwritten rule that we won't hold the restaurant's feet to the fire with a review. After all it would be unfair to take issue with food and/or service shortcomings at a place just finding it's feet. Unless of course there were no notable shortcomings. That was the case this past weekend when we had dinner at the just-opened (Day 6 when we arrived) Restaurant at 1900. It's located in the KarBank Building at the corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and State Line Road. If you're a local you've driven past this building before. Probably 1,000 times. And frankly, if you're not looking for it you won't find the restaurant based on a drive-by. There's no significant signage at all. The extra effort will pay off as “1900” delivers a great dining experience. Photos below tell the story of the food. Delicious. The restaurant is staffed (front to back) with seasoned veterans that possess the right balance of experience and commitment to modern hospitality.

Check out our food blog on Facebook @trillianeats For more detailed information. Food: The wine menu is impressive, along with two page drink list. Sadly they only had a few local beers. Most of the appetizers are seafood, but we decided to have the pear and prosciutto arugula salad. It was sublime, the salty and sweet pairs well with the arugula. The Calaian sea bass was cooked to perfection, tender with a great flavor. The lobster and crab had a buttery flavor, but sadly was a little chewy. We also splurged for the dessert menu and were pleasantly surprised at how robust the dessert were. Staff: One of our waitresses was just adorable and extremely helpful. The Beverage Director Doug Frost came out to speak with us to make sure the drinks were made to our liking. Some of our regret for the evening was that most of the staff was a little rigid. I guess for the area it made perfect sence. It was really 50/50 for us so giving it another chance is in our cards.
