Nankin Hobby Farmington — Local services in Farmington

My father purchased a suwannee river special train set that was on sale for his grandson for Christmas. We didn't know the train was damaged till Christmas day. The young man who sold the train stated you can return item if anything is wrong with it after going to the rear of the store to talk with an adult. Christmas day my son opened the box excited! The train was put together and placed on the track. My son surprise, train do not function. I did an inspection and observed one of the wheels was damaged. I google the instructions that was not provided and Manual stated all wheels must make contact with the track in order for the train to operation. This train set was not inspected but sold as a damaged (non working ) product with no disclosure to the consumer. I attempted to explain this to the owner who I assume i was speaking with but later discovered he was not the owner of the business but a family member. He explained that the train set was slightly used. I understand slightly used but does slightly use mean it doesn't work. The only feed back was your receipt states sales is final in the upper left hand corner of your receipt. I advised the owner I was told verbally by employee that they would honor return at time of sale if anything was wrong with the item. Terrible business that sells damaged goods and do not stand behind there Product. There was no signs posted indicating all sales was final. If a sign was posted in the store there would be no reason to ask if the item can be return...

I am incredibly disappointed in the service and support I received from Nankin Hobby in Farmington Hills, MI. I recently purchased an R/C car for my son's birthday. Within an hour of total usage over the course of two days, I had returned the car to the store twice for infant quality issues. Each time, I was greeted with a shrug and a lame explanation that this is what one should expect in the hobby world. Furthermore, when they "repaired" the car (at my expense, comping me on the labor as if that was a giant favor) the issues were exacerbated. The real problem was the total ambivalence of the staff and their terrible suggestions for how to fix the issues. The usual response was "...for $100 I can make it better", where it should have been "I am sorry this product has quality issues, let me help you get that corrected."

Upon realizing they were not interested in helping me I worked with the manufacturer who decided to stand by their product. When the manufacturer received the car, they were surprised to see the repair that was made (by Nankin) was done with out of spec parts.

In the time of e-commerce wiping out local businesses, I make it a point to shop local. In turn, I would expect local businesses would be making it a point to work hard to earn, and keep, customers. Unfortunately, I will no longer support Nankin Hobby and will encourage others to look elsewhere, too. FIint, MI has a great hobby shop, if you're interested. It's just a bit longer of a "ride"...

Absolutely love it here. Very knowledgable, and friendly staff. I'm just getting into the rc plane hobby and these guys steered me in all the correct directions, even when it was against my wishes. I was far too full of myself and thought an edf jet would work for me as a beginner. I think 3 different people told me no less than seven or 8 times that it would be a horrible choice for a first plane. That really stuck with me, because boy were they right!! They arent going to just push something onto you for a quick sale. These guys are going to ask what experience level you have and then they will go over the best possible options for that skill level. Even when the store is super busy and there are like 4 customers to every employee, it really doesnt take very long to get someone to help you. Every single employee i have spoken to at this store has been really personable, and considerate to what i as an individual am looking for. After ive bought my planes ive called a few times with random questions and everytime the people here are more than willing to be as helpful as possible. I can tell these guys are passionate about their hobbies and that is exactly how someone should be with their occupation. It's just an excellent overall vibe here, and im really glad i chose to shop here. These guys get 10s all across the board for every metric a hobby store could possibly score on. I will be going thru them for the majority of my future purchases....
