I have no desire to go back to this TJmax location. Definitely will continue to be a costumer of the chain and won’t let this absolutely ridiculous experience affect the business I give this company.
I went to this location on Friday November 18th as part of my holiday shopping. I live near the Novi location and had bought a coat and a blouse there. Both of these I needed a different size which wasn’t available at the Novi or Livonia store so I went to Farmington.
Unfortunately this location too didn’t have the alternate size so I grabbed few things to purchase and went to the check out counter to also return the two. I had my receipt and had bought these items the day before. The cashier, London, scanned the items I was returning and saw a reason to call the floor associate: an older, gray haired African American woman. The floor associate looked at the blouse and said they don’t carry the brand. I bought this at the Novi store, and TJmax is notorious for carrying hundreds of different brands.I have shopped there for over 25 yrs and brands are inconsistent , given the nature of the store. She also said the coat scanned a different color than what I had. She called the floor manager when she realized that information didn’t matter to me as my return was ok, I had a receipt from the day before and this was TJmax merchandise. The manager Chris comes and is now the third Tjmax rep who refuses to take my return and tells me I have to go back to Novi. Absolutely not I said and I suggested yet again that they can call the store so they can verify the items. I knew what I had and I was confident that the Novi store would be professional and efficient as usual. I never ever had to deal with such hostile costumer service representatives. They seemed to really be ok with sending me away and insinuating that I had forged this return. It was ridiculous and embarrassing. Manager Chris called Novi and of course they said both items were ok. She still told the cashier London to only return the coat. When I asked about the top she tells the cashier “return it I will donate it.” Donate it ? What manager says that to a customer? Tacky and unprofessional.
I made it a point to take a customer service phone number to report this humiliating and unprofessional experience. All three can use coaching on how understand when a return is correct and also how to help a customer who brings business to their store. I ended up leaving without purchasing anything either. The store lost my business immediately.
The next business day I called the customer service who went as far as explaining the return procedure, even if I have returned at Tjmax for decades and confirmed that the behavior of all three employees was unprofessional and unnecessary. Had it been the other way around it would have been labeled and reported as racial discrimination. They mentioned this will communicates to their store manager Karen. Read moreDisappointed by the customer service! I had stopped by after work picking up a few things, I was going to be in and out because they were closing. I knew what I was looking for, but to be honest the aisle i was in wasn’t the most organized so I was taking a bit longer than necessary. An employee had then come up to me saying, “Enough shopping please get in line” … She said this to me as I was walking to the register; I was caught off guard because there were other people still rifling through clothes! Most notably - as I am trying to pay for my two items, my card declined and I had no cash on me. The lady at the register was very sweet, it was the woman blocking the door that really made this experience negative. I asked to run to my car to grab some cash, and the woman at the door said “Normally I wouldn’t be able to let you back in but” ?? It wasn’t even 9:30? I’m not even 30 seconds when the door is locked again!! I knock and the woman rolls her eyes as she opens the door for me… Anyways I pay and while the lovely lady at the register counts my change the woman at the door is loudly complaining about how many people are still in the store and how they’re closed… Still not 9:30 and incredibly unprofessional!! Then of course she is guarding the door as I try to leave. To her credit she told me to have a nice night, although her tone was very passive aggressive. How strange! I was rushing trying not to be the rude, oblivious customer because I work in customer service myself and as annoying as it is that customers come in 20 minutes before close - I could never imagine being so loudly annoyed about it!! Read moreUpdate: 070823 Rude! A stocking staff member, a woman placed in a leadership role, did not show one bit of respect or assisted me with my search! I went in looking for an undersink matt, and I decided to look for personal items. Once again, the store was not in order. I did find 6 items and proceeded to the home goods/ household items, because you can easily get distracted, I had to go around the aisle and was confronted by a woman who said rudley I cannot shop in this aisle! Granted, I understand stocking, rearranging, etc. She never even redirected me. She never asked me what I was looking for! She discarded me like a child! I put the 6 items back and left the store!
I learned don't react immediately breathe leave the location and then decide how you should handle the situation!
I only go now if I have to find a specific spice. The clearance section is overflowing and messy. One day, I was given a price for a shower curtain and went to check out and forgot the manager name that gave me the price. by the time I stood in line the to check out the shift changed all my hard work pilfer through the messy clearance items and straighten was for nothing just an cashier and manager saying I was mistaking a few day later I tried to reach the other manager not to my luck the same manager that said I was mistaken heard my complaint and she apologized. My reason for getting the shower curtain was no longer a priority. She did offer me a 10% discount next time I came in, but as you see, the next time I was in the experience didn't set well.
