This has been a staple in my life for as long as I remember so, bringing my family home for the weekend I was anxious to take them to the theater, unfortunately it is not what I remembered. There were no arcade games for kids, tickets were bought outside, rather than inside. The popcorn was stale and tasted acrid. The employees showed little to no professionalism, and were very slow. I waited 10 minutes for a small popcorn and soda. I asked if they had nachos or something besides popcorn and candy and got a snobbish look and a response from one of the employees who was annoyed and said no. Upon getting inside the theater where we were watching the movie, seats were ripped, smelled like cow manure in the room and the floor was sticky. The theater had little to no air conditioning, and was quite uncomfortable between seats pinching my legs and no air. The resolution of the screens appeared to be outdated as well. I asked for a refund of my money speaking to an older woman with graying hair and she refused. The theater its self is run down. But, now has a grille and drive in, both of which I was not allowed to utilize gift certificates at. Advertising for these new areas, yet there needs to be a level of upkeep. The place looked unsanitary, and honestly it was a true disappointment. My family and I should have just rented a movie from red box, but we chose an adventure and recieved the worst customer service and sat in the most dingy dirty sticky smelly run down...

After growing up with Narrow Gauge Cinemas (and the small single, then split screen theatre on Perhim Street that preceded it) in Farmington, and then moving away and having the unfortunate experience of a large chain movie theatre where you pay close to $30 a ticket, $15 for popcorn, $10 for a drink, $8 for candy, wait in line for tickets, again for food, and have rude and loud people all around you in dirty and nasty theatres down south, I cannot tell you how much we appreciate Narrow Gauge Cinemas... we now wait until we are in Farmington and can go to Narrow Guage Cinemas or we just do not go at all.
...and did I mention their prices (as of Sept. 2016 on their website)?
ADULTS $6.00 CHILDREN & SENIORS $4.00 MONDAYS & MATINEES $4.00 3D FEATURES $1.00 extra
...and you can pre-buy 10 packets of movies for $5.00 each! (Gift Certificates).
Really amazing prices!
All the theatres are comfortable, reasonably clean, and not at all crowded (at least not since Titanic ;).
The only complaint is that the volume is so low (quiet) that it is sometimes hard to hear well, and you definitely will not "feel" the explosions or anything that is supposed to be loud... but I think this is because of local wishes and feedback rather than capabilities.
Conclusion: If you can get by the low volume, it absolutely...
Read moreOn 7/28 my roommate and I drove an hour to see the Barbie movie at the drive in. Apparently the drive in was closed that weekend for live music, etc. The website wasn’t very clear about the drive in being closed that whole weekend and we were somehow able to buy tickets regardless for a 7:30 showing that evening. My roommate emailed John Moore who works at Narrow Gauge Cinema to request a refund if possible and explain what happened. He gave a crass and unprofessional response. It’s “suspect” to travel from Lewiston to Farmington for a drive in movie?? Because I/we didn’t want to go see teenage mutant ninja turtles at Saco or Mission Impossible/John Wick at Bridgton drive in (both of which are only 5-10 min closer so I don’t know why he’d call them out like they’re right by Lewiston?) and we were hoping to see Barbie at a location I’ve gone to dozens upon dozens of times since I was a child from growing up in the area?? Probably will never go again now. John Moore please work on your customer service skills! And when we sent a response back calling him out for his unprofessional response, we never heard back. Very very very poor customer service for a locally...
