We both ordered the Smoked Salmon Florentine eggs Benedict. Something happened that day and we still don't know what, no one had the Kahunas to talk to us. Instead we waited over 45 minutes, close to an hour for our food.
Not an issue, but 20 minutes into the wait we are brought plates of food that we didn't order, an omelet and something with toast, we immediately point out the mistake and then are completely ignored for the remainder of our wait. Our waitress looked stressed so we didn't want to add to it by demanding an explanation.
Around this time all the other tables have changed over and a large family with a small child is seated near us. I overheard a few order steak and eggs. Depending on how it's cooked that's a long wait. But lo and behold our food arrives and as the picture shows eggs were way overdone. I'm just cutting into my food when the large family next to us is getting served their steak and eggs! Wow! THEY got some fast service! So I don't know what to think.
Possible scenarios: Our amazing food was delivered to the other table, who's food we were served, but rather than being good citizens, they just took it as their lucky day and dug in! Leaving our waitress to have to rush through our order and leaving us with overcooked eggs and a sour taste in our mouths. Wompwomp.š¤·
Scenario 2: our waitress just totally forgot to put in our order and then needed it rushed.š
My boyfriend's favorite: salmon had to be caught and smoked hence the extra wait on our food.š¤¦āāļø
Whatever the reason I left the way overdone egg on the edge of my plate hoping someone would come by and clear this issue. Our waitress did stop in briefly to ask how things were.. My boyfriend didn't say a word. I let out a high pitched "ummmmm" to which she didn't respond and skirted away to the next table and refill their coffee.
At this point we just wanted to get out of there. No one had brought the bill yet so we placed the card on the edge of the table hoping to speed things along. This was quickly snapped up, potentially due to the indication that we wouldn't be arguing the bill.
Why we chose the homestead that day: I was really just hoping for a nice breakfast. My cousin had worked there in the past and my mom has claimed to have been roommates with the owner in their younger years. I had always heard such good things and I really hope this is just one of those times where things didn't go right, but we don't know. As I said in the beginning, NO ONE HAD THE KAHUNAS TO TALK TO US. So we are left to assume and/or come up with ridiculous potential sceanrios.
Additional reference: We parked at 945 on Maine maple Sunday and were immediately seated. Our food arrived just before 11 and we were gone by 1120. It would be one star if not for the pancakes that we had also ordered. I may have announced "pancakes of redemption!!" after a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI decided to to try this location at the recommendation of a friend. Being from the Portland metro are, I was/am not used to nicer establishment up in Farmington. Suffice it to say this The Homestead rivals many of its peers in Portland. The setting right on Broadway St in Farmington is very nice. It gives off a pleasant upscale modern atmosphere. The interior is is nice, featuring a raised platform/stage seating area, and a cozy copper top bar. Perfect to match you Moscow Mule mugs ;) (they actually don't serve MMs in those though)... Anyhow interior aside, the food was of pretty good quality. Especially goo quality considering what else the Farmington area has to offer. I had the new Truffle Papperdelle and liked a lot! Thought it wad pretty good, the shredded beef wad a little on the dryer side. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because of how busy they were that evening. Moving on, the staff was and experience was solid, despite being busy they were able to provide good professional service. Value was okay dinner entrees, ranged from $15-$25, and were served in pretty good portions. Overall, the experience was very good, there was a great variety of dishes, and beverages, One of their in-house cocktails, "Gentle Hands" was a good fruity Gin based option, interesting naming scheme though... Service and staff was also very good. The atmosphere was good, and the overall operation was smooth. I would highly recommend stoping and trying this establishment out! Pretty good as far as restaurants go north of the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWeāve been here at least a dozen times over the last year or two. Locals. Enjoy the atmosphere and service is always very friendly, but as others have noted very inconsistent. You might go 20 minutes or more without seeing anyone and have to flag someone down and get your own water refilled.
Also this is the 2nd time in a row Iāve been really disappointed with portion size and quality of food. Sometimes food is good, other times the same dish will be not good the next time you come. Recently I had the Tagrashi salmon bowl and it was basically an appetizer for $17. A tiny slice of salmon that cannot be called a fillet, a small serving of rice, a handful of lettuce, and three small slices of avocado and cucumber. Just a totally unacceptable amount of food for that cost and I left hungry. Waitress did not ask us how the meal was so I was not able to comment. The time before that we were in for Sunday brunch and I got the brunch special for $24 which was steak and eggs. I got the tiniest medallion of steak youāve ever seen, well done when I had asked for medium rare, one or two eggs I canāt remember, and a tiny portion of home fries/ potatoes. Donāt skimp on the potatoes, theyāre cheap. We left saying we would not come back even though weāve been customers for years. We tried again anyway last week but after that tiny salmon fillet, I think we are actually done.
Hope Laurie is reading this and will put some real consideration into staff training, portion size, and more consistent quality of food. Thanks for...
