A little background of who we are and my personal background for this review of the village gate apartments. I have a construction background and a degree in this matter as well, we moved here from the Midwest and couldn’t visit any apartments prior to moving. These guys offer you to do virtual which is cool but doesnt allow you to feel what the space is prior so I hope my review can paint a better picture of the “feel” of these apartments. Also, I will say they have a nice looking website.
-To start of the list the paint on the wall is a primer and anything that gets brushed against it stains and makes it discolored, so there is poor paint quality.
— Our bathroom had a leak prior to us moving in, (1st time they tried fixing) we were told that the drywall looked pretty rough but the problem was fixed. Okay, awesome! But wait it wasn’t, grey water continued to leak into our apartment and seeping through the poorly done drywall. So, we informed them this was still occurring, (2nd time they try to “fix” it)this was probably about two months into living here, they came back and cut out drywall and told my fiancé it was just bad drywall. All while the disgusting “grey water” smell is in our apartment. We thought it might be the nasty carpet and laminate that they have in place, and also the water damaged cabinets that are most likely retaining lots of mold and filth underneath. Our problem came back up because the problem hasn’t been fixed. So, the kind and nice maintenance men (and I mean that sincerely not sarcasticly) come back out to try to fix the problem. (3rd time is the charm, so far we haven’t had any other problems with this) While they are out here the third time, I was home, when the wall gets opened up, low and behold, the leaking pvc that you can tell has had a leak for a long time, so we’ve found the source... but with long term grey water leak comes some nastiness, like our case with mold and build up. This cavity in the wall is also located where our air return is which is the air that then gets circulated through your apartment. So, start to end with the ordeal in our 550 sqft apartment took about 3 months, and I reached out to see if there was any lee way to compensate for the major inconvenience this has been, and knowing that this was in fact not our fault, I thought there would be something they would do to help out in this case. They told me if they gave me a “discount” (like this situation was something positive for us as the tenants) they’d have to honor that for everyone, my remark was in that case you’d have to also have on going problems with disgusting mold and mildew in their apartments as well to be fair. But we continue to talk and they keep telling me that it isn’t their fault so they won’t do anything. I have more to say but there is a limit on how...
Read moreBy far the worst place I’ve ever lived in my life. I highly highly recommend staying far away from this residence. This place has so many hidden convenience fees that it’s not worth it. Find something nicer for the extra $200 a month as you’ll inevitably pay for it in the end. Don’t be awed by the temporary apartment as it’s way nicer then what you’ll actually move into. The blinds are cheap and break easily which you’ll end up being charged for. The main appeal was the pool which was closed for half the summer waiting on a safety inspection and a “gated” community in which the gate breaks every other week and remains open allowing anyone to come in. Multiple tenants had packages stolen during my time there. The place has undergone new management and the women at the front are helpful, which may be better then what it was. However the maintenance supervisor and team hasn’t changed. Their maintenance staff is courteous but every time I had a maintenance issue or work order completed, they would leave trash in my apartment. The tipping point for this place was when I had a sewage block; which I found out at 1900 after work. The upstairs tenant had flushed the toilet causing the bathtub and toilet to over flow with fecal water. The maintenance staff did not respond to the emergency call until 2200. I was charged $500 for an after hours plumber and charged $50 for the maintenance supervisor to show up on site after hours. I was then charged an additional $40 for a 2 week late fee because I refused to pay the maintenance supervisor for something that was never agreed upon on or in the original contract. Village Gate Apartments then sent me an eviction notice two weeks later right before I was moving out due to deploying. The maintenance supervisor is a complete joke and should be ashamed. The rental agreement’s fine print holds every tenant liable for plumbing blockages but the fact they didn’t answer the emergency work line for three hours is frankly unacceptable. Please save yourself the headache and your hard earned money by living somewhere else that’s actually understanding of you and your family. Hope this review helps to save you the misfortune I...
Read moreI lived in the most modern, recently renovated 2 bd 2 bth apartments for two years and one month. In my time there, I had at least three different neighbors next door (make of that what you will). Here's my experience:
The good - modern and clean. Convenient location in town. Mostly families from other countries working at Cape Fear hospital and some military couples. Gym is good, maintenance is friendly and effective (during scheduled hours exclusively - no after hours help, even for emergencies).
The bad - Not as safe as you'd think. The gate is open all the time, and in my two years of living there we had car thieves caught on cameras (private cameras that were then reported to management - backwards in my opinion). Cops patrolled a few days after that. Management acts friendly to your face but does not really follow through and hits you with as many charges as possible - I literally paid an outside company hundreds of dollars to help me with apartment clean up so it was perfect, so how did I get charged $260? They are not clear and honest about trash removal and charged hundreds of dollars extra with both disposal and dumpster fees. There were electrical issues in my apartment often during my two years of stay there - smoke alarms would go off constantly during the night for more than a week at a time, damaging my sleep routine. On the Saturday of my last week there, while trying to move out, the entire building had an alarm screeching that the fire department could not turn off, and my friends and I had to leave because we could not stand the noise. Literally, dozens of families standing in the parking lot with hands over ears for hours. I was then charged an extra $50 because I had to move out a day late due to this, when this was entirely their fault. Many people openly smoke and vape here, and lots of Filipino families let their kids run wild everywhere and leave bikes and toys and trash scattered. The walk-out gate I often used had a broken lock on it so I wasn't able to use it for weeks at a time, multiple times. Lots of challenges and extra expenses, and admin is not your side! - they're on...
