Read moreProbably the worst thing I could have done was to take my laptop to this shop for repair. My laptop wasn't getting power. I suspected it was merely the power cord, adapter, connector fatigue so I asked them to validate. They didn't call back in after a couple days. Odd for a simple diagnostic. When I called them they said the problem was the battery. I asked, "not the connection?". No. Battery. I authorized replacement. Again no call back so when i called them, they said battery didn't resolve. They proposed troubleshooting components on the motherboard at 150/hr. I asked why not just replace the MB? They agreed. I asked them their confidence in success....they assured 100% guaranteed to resolve. I authorized. Again no call back so I called them after a few days. MB didn't work. They suggested a new computer. Weird, that a power problem is so elusive. I asked them again, did you try a different compatible power cord? They said no. Wait what?!?! But he went away, tried it and said no difference. So I picked it up. Paid 30 bucks for the time, unhelpful though it was.
So I get a second opinion because it didn't seem like it should have been that hard. Certainly before just "get a new computer". Its a high end HP laptop.
Once it was diagnosed, the problem turned out to be, wait for it, the cord adapter.
BUT now the computer is getting a blue screen. Needs to be reformatted, windows and everything reinstalled. No applications salvaged.
Assuredly the components that were unnecessarily swapped, were ultimately unhelpful to the end game.
This company's "service" actually ended up costing me hundreds, and lost me data, drivers and applications, when we could have just validated the power cord at the onset.
Lesson learned "trust us we're professionals" couldn't be further...
Read moreI have a Pixel 3 phone. The camera got stuck on selfee mode. It took it to Verizon where I bought it. They saw that the back glass was cracked. They offered me a replacement phone for $199. That was my insurance deductible. So I called 3 phone repair places in the Roseville / Folsom area for pricing. 2 said $155. I told them that Express Mobile would do it for $65. They laughed and said you get what you pay for... I checked Express Mobile for reviews. They have almost a full 5 🌟 rating. So I called and spoke to Enman (sorry about the spelling). He ordered the part with a $20 down on my card. The part arrived quickly. I took my phone in and they replaced the back glass right then. They fired up my phone but the camera was still stuck on selfee mode. They determined the camera was bad. I asked how much to replace it? He said how's $ 85 sound? I asked, so $85 on top of $65? Enman said no, $85 for both... He ordered the part, it was here in 2 days. I took my phone back and they replaced it right then. I watched as he replaced the camera. There are 18 little screws of different sizes and length. There are about 8 different components to remove to get to the camera. You need lots of special tools and a heating pad to soften the adhesive to open up the phone. He was done in 25 minutes. The camera and phone work perfectly 👌.
