Talk about fall of a shining star. Five years ago, I wouldâve rated this place.âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸. It was what I would consider one of the best sushi restaurants in the Sacramento region. I rated them against Sky (EDH) and Kru (Sac), even above the popular Mikuni chain. After Covid, there has been a steady decline in service and quality. My family and I stayed loyal, all the way until last night.
When we first started going, I just figured the restaurant was new and needed time to build. Since then, the decor has not progressed beyond what you would expect from a strip mall diner. The service used to be absolutely stellar. The staff was attentive and accommodating. The newer employees treat you more like youâre a nuisance and would rather adjust your bill versus just correcting the order. Normally, I enjoy dining in, but I also have a large family so we do a lot of takeout. On my last two experiences, one dine in and one takeout, the person taking my order missed an item. (The first time it was my personal meal and by the time I realized my meal wasnât coming, my family was mostly done with their meals. The second time was just a side order of rice for takeout).
Most of the time I can let sloppy decor and poor service slide, as long as the food stays of superior quality. This is why Iâm finally giving Hisui a rating. The fish was so poor quality, I may have been safer with gas station sushi last night. After spending over $100 for a dinner, I just couldnât just not eat the sushi. I definitely suffered the consequences for my actions though⌠repeatedly. I would not rank myself as a sushi, connoisseur, but I am definitely a great admirer of the dish. If I wanted this quality of sushi, I could go to a South Sacramento all you can eat buffet for half the price. If I want to spend this much for dinner, Iâd just as soon go up to Sky or Mikuniâs instead. At least there I know the quality is going to match the $.
Itâs sad to see such a once great establishment fall to its current status. My family wonât be going back any time in the...
Read moreI just love this place. I wear stretchy pants and don't eat breakfast to do the all you can eat lunch. I am a huge fan of the salmon and smoke salmon nigiri here - like butter, good quality. They have gluten free soy sauce/tamari and accommodate my allergies. My coworkers enjoy the more artistically composed rolls that I am allergic to. The all you can eat menu is well-rounded for sushi compared to other places. They also have vegan/veggie sushi options on the full menu. You can order 5 items at a time so I am strategic about getting that order in so that it comes out promptly when I'm done with the previous 5 (serious sushiage!). I can put down what would be $100 of sushi off the menu so the all you can eat is totally worth it. Price has gone up over the years from about $16 now to $18 and change. Some of our more delicate flowers won't eat enough to justify all you can eat. Assess the value if you possess self-control or a tiny tummy. Service has improved. It's never been bad but we've been in where it felt a little slow. Last time I was in on a Friday for lunch and got in before the Intel table of 15 (yikes!). Service was fast and we were never lacking food or...
Read moreFavorite sushi spot in Folsom. Tried most of them, and Hisui has been my favorite of the bunch. Everything is always prepared/cooked very well, fresh and clean fish, good variety of rolls. As well as plenty of more tradition options that don't feel americanized (they have plenty of rolls like that too though).
Go for a dinner bento, and a special roll. It'll be nice and filling, tasty, and offers a decent variety of individual food items to try. Also don't pass on the sushi tapas, they're pretty unique to this sushi place within the options of Folsom restaurants. Tuna with the crispy rice is one of the better choices there.
Also the wait staff has always been awesome, and the chefs definitely know what they're doing. I can tell just by how they make the nigiri that they have a good many years of training. Could easily pass for a much higher end sushi place if they wanted.
Definitely glad they're here in Folsom, otherwise you'd have to settle for less or travel...
