They don't know what they're doing. Their philosophy revolves heavily around replacing strings, and they misdiagnosed an open seam in my violin as me needing new strings. Before I wisened up to their incompetence, I took their advice and replaced my strings, discovering a massive open seam a few days after my appointment. They charge repairs of an open seam by how large it is... and in neglecting it, I had to pay a heftier price, make a few extra round trips to Denver, and abandon them for someone new. I also had issues repairing bows there, as they use bad hair that lasts only a month or two, and in the Luther Strings way, they tell you it's normal and that they're your guys. Do not go to the current Luther Strings; something is incredibly wrong with their luthier services and they don't have the staff and the knowledge necessary to run a shop that advertises itself as one that works on violins. When the customer must self-diagnose an open seam and the violin shop consistently affirms that their methods are sound (it isn't normal needing a bow rehair after one month even with lots of playing)... you know it's time to begin searching elsewhere. Call my situation Stockholm Syndrome, but don't make the same mistakes and consider your options before you waste any money.
*this review was delayed (a year) in its writing, they may have changed some things and hired a better luthier, but my experience inclines me not to trust...
Read moreGoing to any store for me is more overwhelming than a pit of Burmese Pythons studded with spikes, so stepping into the orchestral instrument world further than computer plugins was a big step for me.
However as soon as I turned into the parking lot for this shop, the outside appearance itself just put me more at ease, and when Chris let me in the inside, catalogue, and service was just as nice. I went in to try the student double bass they had, but before we did he offered some water and then gave me a run down of the instrument, and Ian, their professional bass player came down to talk for a little.
I messed around a bit with the instrument they gave me, and when I decided it felt right we went through to the rent to own terms and filled out my Info. I mentioned being a little tight on money at the moment and asked if we could start with the first monthly payment instead of the three month down payment, and though I would have been happy to pay the three month premium, Chris just decided to give me the first month free. I offered to pay the first month at least but he insisted, I just paid the first insurance bill.
These people are awesome, I’ve found the local place with cool people who not only know their instruments, but people I feel I can relax and have a good conversation with as well.
Looking forward to my first lesson with Ian, and keeping in touch with you guys! Looks like I’m a Bass...
Read moreI’m extremely pleased with the whole experience of buying a violin for our young violin student with Luther strings. It’s a small family owned business by musicians who take pride in their company. I reached out online to see if I can schedule an appointment and the owner Chris responded in minutes and was able to get us in to the showroom the next day. The shop has a great selection of violins at all price ranges displayed beautifully. Chris met us and walked us through a few different options based on our budget and our daughter’s level. He didn’t try to up sell us or pressure us into buying. Although we didn’t take advantage, he said we could take the violin we like home for a week to trial before making the decision. He also gave us as much time alone as needed to play the instruments at the store. Although my daughter has only played for about 2 years, she immediately lit up when she played one of the pieces. These instruments are definitely an investment and I really do not know how their prices are compared to other stores. However, they offer few different option plans to meet family’s needs (rent, rent to own, purchase). Also, there’s something special about being able to select the instrument in person vs buying online. And, if something happens to the violin, we can always bring it back to the store. My daughter told me she loves her new violin and even gave it a name. That is...
