The Freeport Oyster Bar is located at 43 Main Street in downtown Freeport, Maine. It used to be a carriage barn & it's now a cozy, little spot to enjoy fresh, local cuisine. This restaurant is known as a raw seafood bar, but it's so much more! They also serve delicious "chowdah" & soups, "lobstah" rolls & salads. They have some interesting signature cocktails, as well as wine & beer selections. To start off, I enjoyed the best clam chowder I've ever eaten in Maine! It's served with sourdough bread. Then I had some very fresh raw oysters, harvested locally & served with their own house mignonette sauce & lemon. The fish dip was delicious! The Freeport Oyster Bar has seasonal, outdoor seating. Plan accordingly because they don't accept reservations. They're closed on Wednesdays & serve brunch on Sundays. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Newly opened by Ken Sparta of Spartan Sea Farms- if an oyster farmer owns the place, you know the selection will be incredible. And if you’re really lucky they’ll have wild palm-sized Belons on the menu, harvested by Ken’s son Leo. Armed with a boat, a rake, and a passion for the mighty mollusk, Leo will give you a new entry for your oyster journal and bragging rights to go along with. Come for the oysters and stay for the drinks. I had Carthusians Running Amuck or maybe it was Crustaceans Running Amuck, can’t remember, I had several, which nicely fulfilled my love of original craft cocktails. They pour a decent selection of beers, wine and spirits which you can sip inside or outside on the patio. Their edibles raise the bar on “bar food” with trout dip, charcuterie, lobster rolls and of course, oysters!

Walked into the Freeport Oyster bar while on vacation and sat at the bar because the restaurant was full. Was immediately greeted by someone who made us feel welcome!! We were waited on by Andre who was the bartender. He had recommendations that were phenomenal!! The oysters (Madeleine Point) were “melt in your mouth” and the margaritas were top notch!! We loved the food and drinks and the atmosphere and the people so much we came back a second night for the same experience and were not disappointed! Would recommend to anyone and everyone! Thank you Andre for 5 star service!!

I'm so sad to be writing a bad review about a place that I was truly hoping would be amazing. I said on the way there "I'm so excited, this could be our new spot!" I am local to Freeport and my family loves dining out, oyster bars being one of our favorite places to go...

We walked in to very bright lights and no music, lots of staff (6 people maybe) and 5 or so customers at the bar. My friend said "Are they open??!" We were told to "Sit anywhere you want!"

Greeted by our waitress... No intro to the menu or oyster selections and there were no specials. I asked if they had sprite for my son, "I'm not sure I'll check" she came back still seeming confused about what maine root soda choices there were. We ordered a root beer. I ordered a drink called "the dash" she returned "we are out of the dash... can I get you another beer?” I mentioned that I had wanted the cocktail named "the dash" she said, oh ok... They had this ($15 was very very sour, and I usually love sour, this was too much... I couldn't taste the gin but it was pretty) My husband got a lemonade ($8)

We ordered our food, a dozen oysters ($39 they only had one oyster selection available, oysters tasted delicious mignonette tasted like straight red wine vinegar) two grilled cheese for the kids ($10 each, grilled on hot dog buns and served with bagged chips) and the cheese and charcuterie board ($25, can't tell you what it tasted like bc it was never ordered so we left without it)

We finished oysters and I ordered a second drink, a glass of Chenin Blanc ($11) after she walked away we saw the table that arrived after us receive their charcuterie board.. I had been watching what seemed to be like messy service and confusion all around the restaurant so I had a feeling ours was missed so I asked when she dropped my wine if it had been ordered. She said no but she could "put one in and he could make it really fast." At this point I just asked her to skip the board and if she could bring back the wine, something I don't think I've ever done. We just really weren't feeling like it was a relaxed atmosphere.

It's a flaw of mine from working in the service industry my whole life that while dining out I'm often watching the style of service and what's happening around me, I would like to think I'm generally a very patient customer especially in a restaurant that has newly opened, I understand it takes some time to adjust and develop a flow of service that works. What I was surprised by was that when our server asked who I'm assuming was the manager or owner to remove my wine from our ticket, that this wasn't followed up with the manager questioning why a table was having wine comped and leaving before their meal came. This review 100% could have been avoided if I was able to relay this to someone in the building.

I ate half of my sons grilled cheese for dinner, had a sour drink and oysters with no accoutrements for $100 then left hungry. Sad to say this will not be our new...

I went here for the first time a few weeks ago. First of all, the staff were lovely and very friendly. The atmosphere was upbeat, and the restaurant was very clean and organized. The outdoor patio was also nicely wheelchair accessible, which is a plus as my husband is in a wheelchair. My concerns are regarding their prices - $4 per oyster?!! Considering these oysters are raised only a few miles away, this is insane. These are the highest priced oysters I have seen, and I’ve lived in Maine my entire life. J’s Oyster Bar, which is a great Maine owned restaurant, serves their oysters for a dollar less. I also ordered a glass of wine, which cost $13 - I’m used to these prices recently even though it’s crazy. However, my wine was served to me in a plastic cup. Even a $100 glass of wine is going to taste like the cheapest wine if served in plastic. The entire experience felt like a tourist trap with the goal being to charge ridiculous prices to people who don’t know better than to pay them. Again, the staff are great, and my complaints are directed towards the owners/management who are directing these prices. I love the idea of having more restaurants in the Yarmouth/Freeport area, but I won’t be going to this one again...

Visited on a Saturday. It took quite a while before we were greeted by staff. We ordered the old bay popcorn, a dozen oysters, clam chowder and a couple cocktails. Popcorn was not my favorite, seasoning was not well distributed. Some bites were overly seasoned and salty and some plain. Chowder was delish. Oysters were good although we recieved only one type of Oyster, not sure if that is the only type they had or what since our server was not very communicative. I did notice the oysters were not released from the shell and there were lots of shell fragments throughout, which was bothersome especially coming from a place called an Oyster bar. The staff did seem busy with bar patrons but there didn't appear to be a lot of people dining. There was a chocolate festival going on and a fudge cart set up in the dining room, which may have been the reason for the less than ideal service, but regardless I would expect better service and more staff on a Saturday at lunch, ESPECIALLY considering there was an event happening in...
