Went to this store for the first time looking for a screwdriver for my G Gundam MG kit. I will say the selection is nice, although it is hard to tell the cost of things as not everything has prices listed. Though after my experience with the staff, I wouldn't want to even ask questions, which being a hobby shop, is pretty detrimental to your success. Unless you want to be known as elitists and unwelcoming.
The staff was pretty stand offish and rude. When I asked for what kind of screwdriver I would need they said "a small one". As if the small scale of the screw itself was not already evident.
After an awkward pause, as I expected to be told where I could find them. I had to ask if they had any for sale, to which the clerk said no and instead pulled one out of his pocket, and said nothing more. I asked "so how much are they?". Granted they ended up just giving it to me, because as he said "we also do repairs and have tons so it's fine", but being explained that first would be great, rather than treated like a wall. As you know, it's not exactly custom for stores to give you free things.
I also asked if they offered any advice or help for models as I have a kotobukiya metal gear rex in kit I have a part stuck together wrong on, and his response was "yeah build it good". Thanks that is amazing advice! I further explained that I meant like help or assistance as I really wanted to finish it but couldn't as the aforementioned stuck part made it impossible to proceed. They said I could bring it in, but after the way they acted and after further research, I don't really trust them with my model.
I learned online after looking them up they do not have the best standing in the Gunpla community, price gouging under old ownership and selling built models that were left on display from old customers under the new one. I can't verify that but there's enough digital evidence on Twitter and Reddit if you search. Enough to make me question their ethics after their unfriendly antics.
I was really excited to go in to this store, as I am new to the area and love hobbies. I was really looking forward to having a close by place I could go in, get some models, ask advice, build my skills and my tools up, and even gain community of fellow builders. However, after my experience, I would rather go to Jungle in Little Tokyo DTLA to support a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful store, rather than some dudes that can't be bothered to be talked to while I'm trying to give them my money.
Overall I would give them no stars if I could, as it is a horrible representation of what a hobby store should be, but the selection is nice. So that saves them.
If you want to do better, be nicer, don't treat perceived beginners or less experienced builders like scum because they are newer or not as knowledgeable as you. Gatekeeping prevents our hobby...
Read moreGot my gf her MG Strike Freedom through online and pick up over the weekend there. We decided to stay and browse some stuff since we needed supplies. This store is pretty awesome so far! There are variety of selection for Gunpla and supplies. No complaint on customer service. There's a display shelf at the front of the store right after you walk in. The Gunplas on display look fantastic and well built. The only downside to that is that the shelf is collecting dust so it seems like a waste. The store capacity for customers is 5 so I can respect that. Due to the pandemic, this store is also low on stock so you might not be able to find what you're looking for. So far, there has been only one guy that works there besides the owner since we came twice. He looks pretty chill and in general a decent guy. He seemed tired so we didn't wanna ask too my questions. Tldr: Good store, low stock because Covid, 5 people per visit, chill dude at the front, nice display shelf but needs to be...
Read morea friend of mine mention this place to me around early 2020 covid lockdowns, I decided to give it a tried when they were open for public, it was amazing how clean and organize the store is that I bought 3 fate kits from them, and started to come more often, the staff is great and will keep your orders you paid online safe till you arrive for pick up, never had a bad time over there, there was a time when I order something very late that they send a email and help me to refund on a product they sold out,
just most hobby stores in SoCal, only issue and can't blame them is the quantity they'll receive for their shipment, I do highly recommend follow their Instagram and check out when they get a next shipment, it's very helpful that I gotten kits I've been waiting to get my hands on, much better price and less wait then online
thanks to them I'm becoming a regular here to pick up any kit/paint/brushes when...
