Mirak is a Korean restaurant that specialized in black goat stew. Supposedly this stew is especially beneficial to women. Being a nursing mom, I am willing to try anything to increase my milk flow. So here we go trying the famous black goat stew – Heugyeomso.
We liked all the banchan. Our waitresses quickly refilled them when the plates were empty.
This was the special dipping sauce for the goat meat. It has sesame oil, spicy red pepper paste, perilla seeds, and green onion.
흑염소 전골 (2인분) Black Goat Meat Stew (2 Portion) | $34.99 The hot pot stew was filled with tender black goat meat, perilla leaves, and leeks. The soup base was quite spicy. I could taste the soybean paste in the soup. It was very hearty and rich. The goat meat did have a gamey taste. With the special dipping sauce, the meat was very tasty. The waitress came back and refilled the stew with more vegetables.
When we almost finished the stew, the waitress used a little bit of the leftover soup to make kimchi fried rice. She just added some chopped kimchi, seaweed, and white rice. It was so good.
After the meal, our waitress brought us some pumpkin juice for dessert. She said this is the special dessert only at this restaurant. True. I’ve never had it before in any other restaurants. The cold pumpkin juice was sweet and light. It’s the perfect way to end our meal.
We love the black goat stew. Not only it was delicious, it indeed increased my milk. I had the leftover soup, and it happened again. So I definitely will be back again and eat...
Read moreI often find myself coming back to this goat soup restaurant, not only because of their specialty but because everything on the menu is simply outstanding. While they’re known for their goat soup, one of the unexpected highlights for me has been the samgyeopsal (pork belly). It’s grilled perfectly—crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside—and keeps me coming back again and again.
The side dishes are just as impressive. The whole kimchi that comes with the meal is especially refreshing and crunchy, providing the perfect balance to the rich flavors of the meat. It has that crisp, tangy bite that makes every mouthful even more enjoyable.
After finishing the main dishes, the fried rice prepared right at the table is truly the grand finale. The way it’s mixed with the remaining flavors and served sizzling hot makes it the highlight of the meal. If I ever feel like treating myself a little more, ending with a cold bowl of naengmyeon is the perfect palate cleanser. It leaves me refreshed and completely satisfied.
On top of the delicious food, the service here is second to none. The manager always greets customers with a warm, genuine smile and makes you feel right at home. That friendliness and personal touch add so much to the experience and make every visit memorable.
Overall, this place offers the perfect combination of amazing flavors, refreshing sides, and heartfelt service. It’s the kind of restaurant that you don’t just visit once—you’ll want to return again and again. Highly...
Read moreMirak is not your typical Korean restaurant with just tofu or bbq. In fact, I feel that Mirak is more of a Korean home-style traditional restaurant geared towards and older audience. Not that this matters, but my friend and I were the youngest people in the restaurant on a Saturday night.
I ordered beef cabbage stew that came with a bowl of white plain rice. The two paired nicely together because the cabbage stew has a hint of a spicy after taste. The entree is simple, yet tasty. If you're considering ordering this dish, I hope you like cabbage and onions because there are LOTS of them. The beef is very tender, but very few pieces, I counted 3.
Service is pretty good, they came by to check on us once and refilled our side dishes. My favorite sides included the mashed potato salad and the green pancakes.
Lastly, my absolute favorite part of the meal was the complimentary cold pumpkin juice at the end of the meal. The lady came by and brought a pitcher asking if we wanted to try some. It was so light and refreshing that I asked for seconds and the lady gave me more. In the future, I shall ask if they just sell the pumpkin...
