When I first moved here 12 years ago, I loved shopping at J&J. I shopped there for the meat mostly. It was always fresh and prices were good. In the last few years, the quality of meat has been hit or miss, especially on the beef. A lot of the produce (potatoes, onions, bananas, seem to have been exposed to moisture. Sometimes you want realize this until you get them home and unpack them....be careful there. Even the bread (just regular loaves) were damp on the shelves today, I had to stop for bread somewhere else. Unless you get sale items, most of the shelve and freezer items are substantially higher priced than Walmart or Publics. Be aware of TRUCK LOAD MEAT SALE!! The meat, again especially beef is inferior quality. The whole ribeye roast and steaks are stringy and tough and sometimes has a rendered taste to it. The box of bacon is not premium(although the box may say it is.) It is paper thin and has a lot of small pieces that are only good for maybe seasoning. I still go by on occasion to check quality, but its really getting to be poor so often that I'm leary of what I might have when I get home. I don't have the time or gas money to go 2 or 3 different places. I feel the owners and managers know about the quality and just try to get by because most of their patrons are nearby and have to walk or pay for transportation. Captive...
Read moreI went in there initially to find some MagicShave. I didn't locate that nor any OFF bug spray. I confess i was looking in the beauty isle where i saw various items but not the blasted bug spray. I eventually gave up on the notion I'd find what i was seeking. A friend of mine told me that JJs does in fact carry bug sprays but i was looking at the wrong isles. So be it. I ended up buying some pop tarts ( helpful hints, believe it or not the generic brands taste better than the name brands) and some bleach. Another helpful tip, my mother always told me that there are some things you just don't scrimp on: bleach is one of them. People out there, do NOT get cheap bleach at least not for your clothes. Anywho, i bought what i bought and the attendant was gracious enough to let me get cash back without having the listed $10 requisite needed for cash back. I was on my way to my favorite Laundromat Coin Laundry which you already KNOW is my go-to. And i needed the quarters. Well, she allowed me to get the desired change and off on...
Read moreI thought this grocery store was like Quality foods. It was as in the way it was set up. Just happened to pass it and decided to stop in and buy a few things...well not what I expected. It was more of a store for Mexican people, which was ok, they are geared towards the people who live in the area, that's fine, but they are ripping off the people who live and shop in the area. Prices were at least 10% higher then Kroger or Walmart!! Most of the customers didnt have cars and were walking or waiting for a taxi or uber, in those cases, they are being ripped off. SMH...I guess the customers either dont know they can get it cheaper or that's the only option they have....you should...
