Gainesville Plaza — Local services in Gainesville

It had its hey-day back when strip-malls were "fashionable" and there was a walmart here. Now its just a half empty strip mall with some new paint on it.

The pros are that there are some desirable stores there like Ross, Burlington, Gamestop, Hibbet Sports, Save-a-Lot, UPS, and 2nd & Charles. but the whole layout is outdated where the stores are surrounding a huge parking lot moat.

Speaking of the parking lot it is just way too huge and its just not a walkable shopping plaza. It's so huge compared to the sizes of the stores that you literally have to park on one end if you want to go to ross and park on the other end if you want to go to 2nd and Charles. I prefer to walk but even that is highly dangerous since there is no traffic coordination (i.e. lane dividers, only one 4-way stop sign, lack of parking blocks) I've seen too many crazy drivers drive diagonally through the parking lot putting both pedestrians and parked cars at risk.

The good news is that the plaza is slowly starting to carve out unused plots of the parking lot to build new stores that also takes walkability into account (easy pedestrian access from 13th street). Hopefully which ever developer owns this plaza will start to carve out more unused plots of parking to build walkable stores and start to morph this plaza into a walkable and more desirable...

I was at Main street Publix. I have never had bad service at any Publix. The staff is always smiling and upbeat and ready to serve you. I use to be a DM over a business and I had 4 locations. So that's around 48 employees. I know when I was present they were all smiles gave great service. But I don't think they were all like that all the time. Customer service is non-existent at the Walmart in Butler North you know it's bad when the nicest people there are the security guards at the door. They never answer the phone when you call and when you do get someone on the phone they're rude and will hang up on you. When you speak to someone there in person, its the same only you see them roll there eyes as if asking a question is an inconvenience for them. Not a good...
