GALT FOOD CENTER — Local services in Galt

“If you’re sick of the chains here in town, give IGA a chance before you drive the next town over for groceries!”

I have lived in Galt for 21 years, and been to pretty much every store. I’m giving Galt SuperMarket, or “IGA” as it is colloquially referred to, a humble 3 stars. This shop is across from Galt High School from which I’m an alumnus. Don’t trust the awful reviews. This store is not always going to WOW you, but it shouldn’t ever disappoint either. They have a much wider, much more diverse produce selection than what I’ve seen from our local Raley’s, Savemart, and Walmart. The produce also looks less pretty, which is usually a sign that it isn’t GMO foods preserved in wax. The rest of the store has pretty much everything including its own Chinese takeout counter, and a decent pharmacy counter if I remember correctly. There are also all sorts of services here from water jug refilling to a recycling center across the parking lot. If for whatever reason you’re dissatisfied, its okay, cus the store is in an excellent location just walking distance away from multiple plazas and a strip mall with a ton of other stores for whatever you couldn’t find here. 5 stars. They were super busy yet the minute they saw the lines growing they jumped all over it, opening up more registers. Super friendly, very customer service oriented. I had a money transaction with them so i cant attest to the products, prices, or pretty much anything pertaining to the grocery aspect of the store..lol...but as far as western union goes? They saved me. I wasnt expecting help to come from a mom and pop that caters ( per my visual observations) to a mostly immigrant community. But it did. Thank you Carol(western union counter). She was freindly, quick, and she didnt balk at my request like so many others did. You could tell she knew her job very well and enjoyed it. She is am asset...

So bright and shiny after the remodel! The vegetable selection is much better now. They sell Harris Ranch beef, and always have a good meat selection. And the Chinese food counter has the BEST Chow Mein anywhere in the area, along with a lot of other delicious goodies that they will make to order. I just found out recently that you aren't limited to ordering what's in the case, they will make things fresh off of their menu. Store has all of the Mexican sweets and drinks and dairy product staples, and I can find things here I don't see anywhere else. Like the little alphabet pastas to make alphabet soup! When was the last time you saw those in a store? Or pineapple jello? Special little...
