We purchased a Jenday Conure from this store. My son would go in and spend time with him. My son fell in love with this little guy. My son went in 3 days in a row and spent many hours visiting with this sweet little guy. My son did video calls with me and by that 3rd day I said okay he needs to come home with us. We bring him home and he just stole everyone’s hearts in the home. We loved him so much. We signed the contract and the contract makes it sound like their birds are all checked out and passed a good bill of health. Well today our little guy woke up and was doing the same routine of eating and cuddling with us. We also did his training which he showed to enjoy for the treats but around 1pm he was walking on his cage and all a sudden fell like a drunk person who had too many. I ran over to the cage and he started to pant really hard. I waited not even 10 mins for him to catch his breath before running out the door to the vet. The vet said he had a respiratory infection (pneumonia) which he contracted before we purchased him. She could hear crackling in his lungs. I paid a lot of money for the ER visit and to resuscitate him but sadly he didn’t make it. We are just so heart broken. I am grateful that he got to live his last days the best days but to be sold a sick bird and told he is in good health is so disappointing. If he had a vet visit while at this store, it could of gave him a better chance to live longer but they sold him with a death certificate. I will say the small time we had with him, just changed the whole family. We all just loved him and he loved us. Just so heart broken.
*Rio did not ingest any toxins in my home. This is what the vet wrote for Rio’s narcolepsy said. This is word for word: The only abnormality is that the heart is subjectively large, the right ventrical is very very thin walled at about 1mm thickness, the left ventricular free-wall middle thickness is closer to 4 to 5mm thickness. The lungs have evidence of congestion. Working diagnosis is congestive heart failure, most likely congenital since so young. I doubt this could have been detected or prevented. Can't rule out other causes of death including inflammatory, infectious, or toxic disease that explains cardiovascular collapse. Some causes of peracute death that result in a physiologic, functional, or metabolic conditions that may not normally create histologic lesions cannot be not ruled out. Some possibilities may include ingestible or inhaled toxins, which must be ruled out based on history and environmental review. The vet who saw Rio first said he had pneumonia and pneumonia doesn’t just happen over night. He did have an enlarged heart but that’s not what killed him. The living situation that he was forced to live in at the pet store was sad. It was a glass cage with wood border but the wood is so discolored that it has what looks like mold growing on it. Rio was allowed no perches. No grid on the bottom of the cage that he was walking around in his filth day in and day out. New newspaper was placed over on top of old soiled newspaper and that was as much of cleaning he got. I have pictures of his water bowl there and it’s so brown you can’t even see the bottom of the bowl. I have purchased another conure from a private seller and have had him for a month now and he has been doing great! Yes, they did reimburse me for Rio but I had to endure the expensive ER vet bill. We only had our little guy for 72 hrs and they ensured us by their words and contract that he is guaranteed healthy but that ended up being misleading and frustrating. 99.9 % of our bird shopping comes from this shop! Staff is amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. Best prices in town and great selection. They're always willing to get you what you need and special requests.
I once asked for a mini plastic comb that comes off one of their hanging toys and they sold me just that so I could brush our cockatiels' crests once in a while.
They also try to support local when they can. Right now they have freeze dried treats from a local person! LOVE this...
Read moreI love this shop! I can't imagine what I would do to find such a variety of quality foods and toys of every kind in one place, not to mention all their help over the years sharing their knowledge and experience. I've even had friends with parrots visiting from Phoenix that couldn't believe we had such an amazing shop in our relatively small town. I honestly believe that having such a knowledgeable team and quality foods available at this store is why my little African Red Belly is so happy, healthy and vibrant. I am able to give her a HUGE variety in her diet so easily, and because the food is in bulk bins you can buy just a little to try something new. I wish my girl could live as long as a macaw, but I plan to keep her healthy and fit with great food, toys and housing so she can live as long a life as possible. Parrots N Stuff has been such a resource and makes it so easy with everything right there. And I love, love, love the new location! It's such a great space, bright and open and the feathered kids seem to enjoy the new location too :) I was greeted with happy noises and heads down looking...
