Three days ago, I brought in a huge 14k gold pendant to have them look at. A woman with blue/green hair took the pendant and tested it with an electronic gold tester. She told me it was solid 14k gold.
Then, she took the pendant and did an acid test on it. She put a small streak of gold onto a slate, put some acid on it, and after about 10 seconds she very confidently told me that the pendant was gold plated COPPER i.e FAKE. The acid had not reacted to the streak. I asked "Really?" and she reaffirmed "Yes, this is gold plated copper. We wouldn't want anything to do with it." Keep in mind, the electronic tester said it was solid 14k.
I was shocked, of course, as the pendant cost a lot of money and she was telling me it was worthless. So, I took it to Chris' Coins to get a second opinion. The staff there used a much more sophisticated electronic gold tester and told me it was, in fact, solid 14k.
Then, I took it to Bay West Precious Metals for a third opinion. The lady there filed a notch into the back of the pendant (to get through any plating there might be) and did an acid test on the notch. She also confirmed that the pendant was solid 14k gold. She said if it were copper or brass, the acid would turn green.
Then, because I was SO thrown by the staff at Ace Buyers telling me my gold was fake, I took it to get a fourth opinion at Old Way Heirloom Design. The gentleman there told me that he has been doing acid testing on gold for 40 years, and after he tested it, he also told me it was solid 14k gold. Noticing a pattern here?
I wanted to get one more electronic gold test done on it, and the nearest one I could find was in Petoskey. So I took the "plated copper" pendant to Treasure Trove Coins and the gentlemen there tested it with the SAME KIND of gold tester that Ace Buyers had. Can you guess what he said? No, really. Guess.
He said IT'S SOLID GOLD.
In conclusion- the person with blue/green hair at Ace Buyers is not trained to identify precious metals and I'll definitely not be buying or selling PMs...
Read moreToday I had one of the best experiences in customer service I've had in 30 years of being in customer service. I had the pleasure of speaking with Ray today and not that that I've ever had a bad experience with any of the other brokers in there but Ray really went above all of my expectations for having to pawn items that help our family survive and pay bills. A few months ago I wasn't able to make a payment on a ticket after paying on it for months previously and I just thought those items were gone and being used by someone else to make money for their family. Today we had to use Ace Buyer's to help us out in a pinch again and to my husband's surprise those items were still there because they knew we had made payments on them because we were really wanting them back. Ray gave me a call to talk to me about trying to make a payment plan to get those items back which blew my mind. We are so unbelievably grateful that those items are still there and Ray did a great job of making me feel like he believed that we didn't want to just give them up after paying for them for sometime.. Top notch Ray.. Top notch. I look forward to seeing you soon and letting everyone I know how great Ace Buyer's has treated us when we needed them most. Thank you for caring about your customers and always being there in our time of need.. Thank you Ray once again in restoring my faith into knowing there is some companies and people that do care and understand people and how to help them. You guys are truly one of a kind....
Read moreWe had a great experience at Ace Buyers. Mike & Marin were so patient, kind and professional. I had asked online about the price & Mike wrote right back and agreed to a generous discount for my adult child's new cello.
Marin was knowledgeable and really helpful as well. It was l like a reunion from orchestra. They allowed us to take our time. My adult kiddo feel in love while playing it.
Then we saw a short electric black bass that my kiddo had been saving for the last year. Mike came over, plugged in an amplifier. This guy rocks!
We were so excited. The cello came with its case, bow &they gave us free rosin. The cello wasn't fitting into the case correctly and Mike gave us an extra discount of $25 off. He took a total of 2 professional instruments & amplifier for $604 !
We feel like we've won the lottery. We are very happy with Ace Buyers. First time at a pawn shop. It was a good experience. Plus, he threw in t cord for free.
They didn't have to let us stay past closing to complete the sale, but they did. And when I forgot the cord and went back days later he still gave it to me!
I promised to write a review. Life happened and got distracted for a month or so. Sorry Mike & Marin! You deserve goold stars for your customer service, knowledge & great service!
Allen is over the moon to be able to begin their professional career with these instruments. Much love to...
