Ive waited a long time to post a review because really I’ve been too upset to talk about it or type out my frustrations. I got married in February of 2022 and NYB&G botched my dress. The day I ordered my dress and was measured the consultant told me I was a size 8. I disagreed with her and upon looking at the sizing chart with her I was persistent that I was a size 6. I was sort of on the cusp between sizes but was also 5 months post partum and was losing weight. I explained this to the consultant and she seemed to understand and I signed and ordered a size 6. Later that day I received a call from another consultant that insisted I must be confused on how wedding dress sizing works. She went on to tell me that no matter how much weight I planned to lose, the dress would not fit me because your rib cage is permanently shaped differently after giving birth. My jaw was on the floor that another woman would mansplain that to me and talk down to me in such a way that basically was insinuating I was an idiot. I again was adamant that I did not want to move to a size 8. My dress was an a line dress, I’m pear shaped, my hip measurements didn’t even matter for me to fit the dress, and I was breastfeeding at the time and had a larger chest than i normally do when I’m not. I explained all of this in a defensive way that made me very uncomfortable. I paid $2500 for my dress and felt it was ridiculous to have to fight for my life to get someone to let me order whatever size dress I wanted. Anyway…. We got off the phone. Flash forward to my dress coming in and I showed up for my first fitting. When I tell you I was SWIMMING in it I can’t even make it up. The consultant was over compensating telling me how well it was fitting me and I was like omg thank god I was adamant on a size 6 because the 8 wouldn’t have even been possible. Took the dress off and wouldn’t you know…. The tag displayed a size 8. They ignored me twice both face to face and over the phone even with a signed receipt for me wanting a size 6 and overstepped/undermined me and just ordered what they thought was best. I was literally seeing red. My grandmother was a seamstress and I know how dress sizing and alterations work. There’s only so much that can be done when you’re working with a dress so many sizes too big. The seamstress that did my alterations bulldozed over anything I said I wanted and pretty much told me there was nothing they could do about me swimming in the cup sizes except stuff my bra essentially. Her and another consultant made jokes about “how my girls would look so much better stuffed anyway”. I don’t have a large chest. Why would I want to suddenly look like I got a breast augmentation 4 cups up on my wedding day. I was constantly expressing how angry I was and not even the manager seemed to care. My wedding was only 2 months after my dress had came in and I waited 4 months to get it so there was no time to order another or for them to rectify the situation. They refused to make an exception for their no returns policy even though all of this was their fault and all they could tell me was that the consultant that made the mistake didn’t work there anymore so there was nothing they could do. My dress had a deep plunge with a mesh piece in between and because of how big the dress was on me the seamstress had to completely sew up the center completely ruining the design and concept of the dress. My mom had to use a seem cutter to help fix the plunge design. There was no salvaging this dress BECAUSE IT WAS FAR TOO LARGE. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Anytime I think about my experience here I almost cry. My dress wasn’t even pretty because of the design being messed up and my cups being so huge on me. In almost all of my wedding photos it’s gaping and obvious how poorly it fit me. I’m 5’1” and very petite. Having an illusion I was carrying double D cups on my chest on my wedding day was ridiculous. I’d recommend going anywhere else. $3000 between my dress and my alterations...
Read moreI couldn’t recommend this bridal shop more! Future Brides: If you want a “Say Yes to the Dress” experience but within a reasonable, regular everyday people budget, this is your shop! They have been exceptionally wonderful to work with from the moment I was out in touch with them.
I found a dress on Pinterest that I loved, but no identifying info on the designer or the dress. After some FBI searching, I found that it was a Maggie Sottero dress, and google I formed me that NY Bride & Groom of Raleigh stocked this designer. I called ahead and explained the situation-they let me know the dress was in my $2,000 price range BUT they do not have that particular style in store. They encouraged me to come check out what they have and what other dresses they have from this designer and offered to order the dress for me to try on!
My bridal appointment was a dream, a true little girls fairlytale dream. The staff is SO kind and SO happy for you. They allow you to walk around and check things out and pull dresses in your own! They have a runway with mirrors everywhere so you can see yourself in every angle.
I found my dress on my first appointment, I walked the runway, I rang the gong, and when I got back to my room, the song “Today was a Fairytale” was plying over the loud speakers. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my days.
Since ordering the dress, there has been NO miscommunication, full transparency for costs and expectations, they called me to inform me my dress had arrived and they would store it free of charge until it’s time for alterations. They called me to schedule the alterations, everything has been timely and ahead of schedule. My alterations appointment was exceptional, the kindest most patient seamstress, and again-I left their feeling like a ROYAL bride.
Veronica and Janie were the (2) representatives that I’ve worked with most and both of them are true GEMS! They are not only skilled in this industry but they built me up so much and encouraged me to try things, just all around made me feel so good.
My most recent experience with NY Bride & Groom of Raleigh was for the Groom and groomsmen attire, and John in the men’s section helped me! Once again, no surprise, he was WONDERFUL. I thought I was set on what I wanted but he came FULL of knowledge on Men’s fashion and helped me make even better selections than I had in mind when I walked in! That department was quick, efficient, and very detailed as well. The prices are beyond reasonable, esp in comparison to local men’s formal wear shops.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend this bridal shop more. So many things can go wrong with wedding planning, so much stress, and mostly SO much money but this Bridal shop has been a dream to work with. Just truly the best experience. So if you are looking for your perfect dress, please give this small family owned business a shot, you...
Read moreWe visited this shop approximately 5 times during the process of my daughter purchasing her wedding gown. The consultant who assisted her in trying on approximately 8 dresses during her first visit was excellent. The seamstress who completed all the fittings was excellent and did excellent work. And yes, this store has an excellent selection of dresses to choose from. My main reason for giving 3 stars is the very poor advice given us by the consultant who assisted my daughter when she committed to her dress and placed the order. The dress she was trying on was at least 3 sizes too big. In order to determine what size to order, the consultant measured my daughter, then brought a size 8 dress by the same designer, but not the same dress. It was still too big, and the consultant stated that according to the measurements my daughter was between a 6 and and 8. Her advice was to go with the smaller size. That should have raised huge red flags for me, but we were all caught up in the moment. When the dress arrived, we couldn't even get it zipped initially. When they did get it zipped, she couldn't breathe. They insisted they could let it out, but when we met with the seamstress, she pointed out that there was very little seam allowance. In the end, they were able to let it out just enough, but my daughter admitted to me after the wedding that she really couldn't take a deep breath. I worried throughout the fitting process that the dress would not be able to be made big enough. My daughter had to watch her weight fastidiously in the months before the wedding. The advice of that one consultant caused both my daughter and I hours of stress and worry, needlessly. My advice is YOU CAN ALWAYS TAKE AWAY FABRIC, BUT YOU CAN'T ADD IT BACK!!! This consultant bragged to us about all her years in bridal, but her advice sure didn't reflect that. I had no recourse to go back to the store about this, because they make you sign off on what you’re ordering. But learn from our lesson, wherever you get your dress - DON'T ORDER DOWN A SIZE!!!! And don't blindly take advice from a consultant because you believe them to be...
