9/23 - Review updated. Gave 3 stars instead of 1. This still should not have happen, but the owner reached out to me and refunded me the cost of my service. He did not have to do that. . . . I have been going to this shop since Jan 2024 for my loc maintenance. I switched to this shop because the lady that started my hair and has been doing it all these years was not full service and was retiring. Other than the stylist NEVER being on time to appointments I never really had an issue at this shop. On Sept 10th, I have my retightening appt and that’s where things fell apart. The shop calls me the day before and says that the stylist that has been doing my hair is no longer with them. That’s fine. She is only the 3rd stylist I been with at this salon. They said Dawn was available I said ok as long as she is great at her craft. They assured me she was.
I get in there on time as usual and I am sitting there over 30mins waiting for someone to come get me. Then the owner comes and gets me takes me back and does the usual wash. I ask him are you Dawn he said no and then gave me his story. He then takes me to the chair and starts on my head. He is very rough on my head, but I didn’t think nothing of it. He does about half my head whole time he is distracted on his phone, leaving and going to do other stuff. Trying to teach other people in the shop. Then Dawn comes over and introduces herself she proceeds to finish up the other side and then styles my hair. Honestly no issue with her, but when she finished I find a few of my locs have been broken off and she said he must have done it. Which he probably did with how rough he was, but instead of him or her telling me they just let them fall on the ground knowing they could be reattached. I don’t know what is on that floor. That was my first issue you breaking off locs. Then after a week of wearing the style I take it out and find that they didn’t even retighten my whole head. They left some. I called multiple times and sent an email nobody responds to me.I paid $150 plus a tip to end up at about $ 165 to just have to call my friend Mesha who owns Laila’s Salon in Clayton, N.C. to fix my hair and pay again. So I paid twice in the same month for my hair because of this salon’s mistake. Please save yourself the trouble and just go to Laila’s Salon in Clayton. Tell them I sent you. Mesha...
Read moreI came in for a haircut service on April 7th. My hair was full and healthy but, I just wanted it reshaped with layers. I showed the Stylist pictures of my desired haircut and told her that I wear my hair mostly blown out. She opted to cut my hair wet anyway because she'd "be able to cut the layers better". After the service, my hair was in a shrunken state so I wasn't able to see the true state of my hair. I returned home and after blowing my hair out, I could see that my hair was thinned out, misshapen, scraggly. I returned to the salon to ask for it to be fixed and for a refund (the state of my hair was so extreme that I couldn't pay for it). The manager at the front desk set the appointment for the next day at 11am and told be me she'd talk to her boss about the refund. I arrived the next day and was told that either they'd fix my hair or a refund would be granted but, not both. The boss had told the manager that I requested layers and since that's the "service" I got they wouldn't do both. I opted to have it fixed at first but, after being told I couldn't get it done that day (after setting an appointment for it) I asked for a refund.
I totally understand mistakes happen and I truly do believe that hair stylists should be given an opportunity to fix it and still be compensated. In my case though it wasn't a simple mistake. My hair was in a horrible state after leaving it in the hands of a professional. Now I'll have to find another salon to fix my hair and it will take me over a year to recover the length and density I lost.
Edit - In response to the owner
The proof is in the pictures. I didn't do anything to my hair except blow dry it after the service. I left with my hair in a shrunken state (2 inches from my scalp) and I was unable to see how bad the haircut was until it was stretched. My hair was ruined at your shop and the customer service after the haircut was subpar. It'd be better to take responsibility for the situation instead of implying a customer "did something" to their hair following the service. I've been taking care of my natural hair for 10 years and it's never looked like this under my care. The customers and stylists who complimented my hairstyle that morning can...
Read moreIt has taken me a while to decide if I wanted to leave a review. I really dislike leaving bad reviews. I went to Locs Naturals about 2 months ago with my daughter. She got a 2-strand twist style and I got coils/finger twists. I gave 2 stars because the girl that did my daughter's hair was really nice, and she really did a good job on her style, but she put ZERO product in her hair. NONE. The girl that did my hair was not experienced really with coils/finger twists. She was nice and was excited to do them because she had not done them in a while she said. She proceeded to do my hair pulling, tugging and complaining about my hair having different curl patterns. My hair was dry as a bone (she did not keep it wet, put mousse in it, nothing) while she was pulling, twisting and tugging. I told her my hair has never had a problem curling even when I do it at home. I asked her what product she was using, and she said ECO GEL!!!! What in the world!!! You are using $5 product in my hair that is only going to dry my hair out and cause flakes which is exactly what it did afterwards. When I looked at the shelf behind me all I saw was eco gel. I am so disappointed in North Carolina. I am new here and have gone from salon to salon. It seems like they only do locs and extensions and need help with that. I will NEVER go back here. If you are just looking for some natural styles with twists and coils, I do not recommend this place. I don't know if I would recommend them for much of anything if they are shortchanging their clients with high prices and the cheapest products in the land. The owner who was a guy I believe, at least he seemed to be the owner was really nice and personable. There was another lady that greeted me, and she was really nice who could have been the owner as well. But we need good customer service and good talented stylist to match. That's all I got. My hair looked better coming in than it...
