Geneva Ace Hardware — Local services in Geneva Township

I don't often write bad reviews, but this experience warrants just that. Visited this Ace on Veterans Day 11/11/24 and worked with Dan (Still Mgr) to purchase a Stihl pole chain saw. Price tag said $679, which seemed to be priced well (as this saw is priced at $719 on-line). Asked if they would also give a Veterans Discount (which I am) and was told a 10% Veterans Discount is given at this store only the second Tuesday of each month (seriously ---not even on Veterans Day?). Therefore I would need to come back the next day (11/12/24) to get an additional 10% off the price. Returned the next day and found that Dan had raised the price of the saw I wanted to $719. Yes I could get an additional 10% off that price, but he would not honor the $679 prior day pricing. He knew I was coming back on Tuesday to purchase it, and I can only conclude that he decided to squeeze an additional $40 from me. He argued that the store would lose money on the sale at that previous day price, with the Veterans Discount. Hog wash! Honestly this store has made living in this area(St. Charles/geneva) amazing. I'm not the most knowledgeable individual when it comes to fixing things or yard work but every time I come in here everyone here is willing to help and goes above and beyond. This isn't a review for Lowe's in geneva but I'll never go back there. I moved here two years ago and used self check out and the old lady there asked to rescan my items because their system sometimes messes up and sets the alarm off. So before even trying to leave the store the lady rescanned all my lamps and I went along with it but felt very disrespected. No surprise all my items were properly paid for and I was on my way. Well today I didn't catch your name but the lady at Ace Hardware today made me feel more welcomed in this town than anyone I've ever met. I had a very bad experience at this Ace yesterday. I was trying to buy a good fan and the lady there was so rude to us. She was very aggressive, verbally rude, selective hearing, and definitely does not care about their customers. Instead a super nice customer helped us instead. He went out to his car to grab a battery for us to just try a fan before we bought it. He was super nice and polite. If he worked there we would have bought it, but then the lady came back she continued to be rude and interrupting us trying to ask questions, so we walked out not buying anything and will not be going back to the Ace until she is gone again. She was fired from there before. Why rehire her? We ended up buying from Home Depot instead. They had super helpful young people that answered all our questions and found the best deals too. That Ace lost $550 from us buying elsewhere because...
