I have ordered from China Wok for the last 8 years and have always been happy with their food and service. Recently ordered delivery from them and was beyond dissatisfied. I wish I had read current reviews rather than relying on my previous experience. Called in an order for delivery and was told it would be an hour, which was fine because it was a Friday at 7pm and figured they were busy. At 9pm we called wondering why it was taking 2 hours. They said that the address they took from us and verified was in Texas and it turned out that they couldn't deliver to us (we gave them an address in Saint Charles). We asked them why didn't they call us during this 2 hour period when they thought we were in Texas (since they already charged our account). They said "we were waiting for you to call us". They said they would redeliver the food that had been sitting there, we asked if the food was cold, they said that it might be warm still, "it has been sitting there for an hour and a half". Since we ordered shrimp and we didn't want food poisoning we ask if they could make fresh food and deliver it to SAINT CHARLES (not Texas). They refused. After 20 more minutes on the phone they agreed to reimburse us. We shall see if they actually do. It's really strange that they were able to get every letter and number right when it came to our credit card info but not a single number or letter right when it came to our address (we had to spell out both multiple times)....
Read moreNew owners, definitely not the same restaurant. I've posted positive reviews about this place a couple of times, I've been eating here for at least 5-6 years, usually get carryout here at least 2-4 times a month. The prior owners were great other than the usual communication problems. Very nice family. The last few times there were none of the usual workers. I asked the girl up front if there were new owners and she replied yes, the previous owners retired. Here are the differences that I've noticed; containers are MUCH smaller, no where near as much food, food preparation uses much more oil and salt (hope it's not MSG, I forgot to ask) the prior owners made their food fairly healthy, vegetables and shrimp are no where near as fresh as they were before, those are usually the only things we order. I'm guessing the other ingredients have taken a dip in quality too. Even the egg rolls taste different and not in a good way. Communication is more difficult, I'm not sure why. The front counter girl seems fluent enough and she understood what I was saying but when I asked if there were differences in the menu, she said yes and described them but I have know idea what she was said. Having said all that, the food was good but it just isn't the same. Very sad about that, I watched and played with their little boy since he was in a playpen and I always admired how hard they worked. We'll be looking for another favorite...
Read moreI'm so bummed. Since moving out to Geneva, China Wok was our go-to for Chinese food. Today I brought home our carry-out order and with just one look knew something was wrong. What used to be covered in Teriyaki sause was now dried strips of chicken sitting in what looked like weak tea. Not gravy, not even broth, tea is all I can think of. It made me gag. I called the restaurant and asked of they had a new cook, they said yes. In fact ownership had changed two weeks ago. They said they were open to suggestions in the future like "heavy with sauce" but sadly this was beyond redemption. It was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. We threw out $36 worth of food. Even the egg rolls were bad. Now we have to look for a new Chinese restaurant.
EDITED TO ADD: The owner did call me back and offer me something else off the menu for free and with my suggestions on how to prepare it. That was nice. I'd recommend they work with the past owner for coaching on preparation of their popular dishes. They are the best source if inside information and...
