I respect the fact that he wants to keep his exotics. I own and love some too but he is setting up his failure. I went yesterday 4/24/15 just to check it out since i hadn't been there before. Upon walking in i already know this is not a good setup for reptiles. There is a full grown Veiled Chameleon about 9-10 inches in this 55 gallon setup with no climbing room, they need a tall tank to climb in, and this is completely unfair to it. I know that snakes like corn, milk and rat snakes that are babies don't need a lot of room but this was completely unfair to them. they are housed in something like a 2.5 tank and no light source. i know that theses snakes dont need high temps but they still need vitamin lights in order to grow healthy and not have medical issues down the road. The turtle setup for the aquatic weren't terrible but i wouldn't applaud him for it either. Most of the tortoises had little room in there tank of than the ones on the back wall but there were also a lot in that tank. The tank that houses his bearded dragon that isnt for sale is way too small. this is a full grown bearded so about 18 inches and is sitting in something that might be a 20 gallon at best. it has almost no room to move. at minimum it should be housed in a 40 gallon terrarium. The large snakes species he is selling is something i am completely against. These snakes are a growing problem in Florida for the exact reason that they shouldn't be sold. These snakes reach sizes about 20 feet and weigh over 100 lbs. theses are the kind of snakes you see at the Columbus zoo. They can easily kill an adult who is ignorant enough to cuddle one like its a child. Which brings me to must biggest problem other than the neglect for husbandry. Upon walking in a group of giggly girls come in and immediately ask to hold some snakes, which is fine. But what they do next is the exact reason why he should be shut down. The snake she is holding is a albino reticulated python. it is at least 6 feet. She first throws it around her neck like its a scarf. Any reptile enthusiast knows that is incorrect and is a good way to be strangled. She leaves this snake like this the entire time i am there. The other girls giggly and talk about how they do that with their snakes and the guy is completely okay with how they handle their snakes. She even handled mice while holding this snake. One girl who isnt hold a snake acutally kisses the 6 ft snake on the head. A snakes biggest sense is its smell. Many people are bitten because of a smell of food or a perfume. I have no respect for people who ignorantly own reptiles and treating them with such disrespect. These are the people that have doomed ownership of such beautiful animals. all because they cant respect them as wild animals that deserve the room, food, lighting, and understanding there wild brethren get. P.S. HE DOESNT ALLOW PICTURES FOR THIS EXACT REASON. HOPE SOMEONE CAN TAKE THIS INFO AND HELP THESE...
Read moreAbout a month ago I purchased a baby Sulcata Tortoise. The person that I purchased the tortoise from gave me a lot of verbal information on how to take care of the tortoise, however only advised the baby needed to eat greens (collard). After a month, my sulcata wasn’t doing too hot and wasn’t eating, so I decided to join a sulcata Facebook group to get some advice, everyone was extremely helpful and advised I take the tortoise to the vet. The vet determined the tortoise had a bacterial infection and gave him some antibiotics. A day after the vet visit, he was doing extremely better, eating like crazy, and the vet gave me a handout on how to properly take care of a tortoise. A baby needs to be in a temp and humidity controlled climate, have a soaking bath, fed mostly grass, and several other factors go into proper care. I called the store to kindly recommend they give a handout when selling reptiles, the person at the front desk handed me to the owner who immediately put me down for taking the turtle to a vet and called me an idiot before I was able to speak. He then continued to talk over me and continued to call me an idiot for taking care of my turtle by taking him to the vet. When I asked the owner what a sulcata should eat, he mentioned greens and dandelions, when the majority should be grass! Before you buy a reptile, please do your...
Read moreAs many other reviewers have pointed out, this place is absolutely filthy and smells horrific! The snakes, lizards, and turtles are all housed in tanks way too small and without proper substrate, husbandry or heat lamps. Some of the turtles and lizards were even kept in Tupperware containers that had holes poked in the lids. Behind the tanks were totes with yet more reptiles - all without bedding or water. They are likely used for breeding. The terrariums are not kept clean; there is matted wet shavings inside many of the tanks. I noticed several snakes had mites which can lead to health issues. Many of the animals look emaciated. I felt so bad for them because the owner doesn't take care of them at all which is quite obvious.
And word of caution, if you plan on going to CBR with your kids, the owner lets his big "pet" alligator run around loose! I honestly can't believe a place like this is in business, especially since the owner, Terry Wilkins, has several violations for improper care of reptiles - all public information.
There's a sign posted that reads "no pictures," and the lack of care for the animals is precisely why. Very sad. Take your business to a place that actually cares for the...
