I have to disagree with some of the above posts. The first thirty minutes I was there, I walked through both the outdoor and indoor areas just scoping it out. The staff, in my opinion, did not hound me, which I appreciated. I wanted to get a feel for what they had for future reference. When I was done looking at the general stock, the staff seemed to know instinctively that I had questions. I DID go there with a purpose, I was looking for fairy garden items. The lady who approached me was just as sweet and helpful as could be. She spent a good bit of time with me, and even though they don't carry those items specifically, when I explained what I was trying to do, she thought outside the box and walked through and showed me possibilities. I would go back in a heartbeat! Also, as far as returns, unless it turns out the plant has insects or is diseased, I would be embarrassed to return it. I have 15+ years experience working with plants, interior and exterior landscaping, ornamental and perennial garden design, greenhouse and garden center experience. There are a THOUSAND reasons your plant didn't make it and I can almost guarantee it was NOT the plant. Overwatering, poor drainage, microclimate, soil pH. On and on. Folks are so quick to blame the plant material. Cultural and environmental factors are almost always the culprit. January is a great month to do garden planning. Do some research, have a soil test done at the local cooperative extension. Play with stuff and keep a diary. Move the plant if it is not doing well. That is my two...
Read moreAfter a long hunt for large camellias, SSG was the place! The main store ladies were very friendly & helpful in directing me to the best place. When needing to go to their larger nursery, it is typically by appointment only, but they were extremely flexible and kind. There’s more there than meets the eye as there’s two sides to their larger plot. A gentleman, Mark, was extremely kind and helpful. He had so much patience with me and was so grateful and courteous. Not knowing exactly what direction I wanted to go in, he was helpful in getting answers to my questions, and for allowing me to come back later in the day to get everything we needed, I cannot speak more highly of him! Paul was another gentleman there, who had been with the Garden for a while and was very knowledgeable on all the plants on their larger side. He was very helpful with my husband, and shared a ton of knowledge. The owner was also very sweet and kind. She wanted to make sure we got the best plants & directed us on where to look for them. Overall, it was an amazing experience & I’m hoping to return to buy one of their larger Magnolia trees in the near future. They have plants ranging from 1 gallon all the...
Read moreWell now, I've got to stand up for this Beautiful Place. These people work very hard at what they do, from SUNUP to SUNDOWN and some do not take a day off. Plants have to be nurtured everyday of the week, even when it rains. Everyone there WORKS in the dirt, in the hot sun and scorching heat. They love the plants, they know the plants and it shows...If you want to see neglect and ignorance go to "The Discount Centers" and "DIY Home Ctrs" (even some grocery stores) ~ they are covered in PITIFUL DEAD PLANTS (and still put a price on them.) and that's my 2 cents...=] A great place to get beautiful, unusual and healthy plants. I love going here any time of the year, and I have NEVER had any problem with the staff, they are always very helpful and have excellent ideas to pass on. I have been to their wonderful classes which are always a treat. It is a must for gardeners to visit. The showroom is a plus. I've been dealing with this nursery for many years now...starting on Garrard Ave. and also at Berwick on Hwy. 17 South and I have never been disappointed. Go see...
