I have been coming to this food lion for a year and a half, most employees know me since I work in the same shopping center. Iāve never had a problem with anything or anyone in this store. I prefer self check out unless I see any of my favorite cashiers. Well I just left food lion, I had a cart full of groceries and went to self check out as I always do. Apparently a new grocery manager, by the name of Nolan Martin, thought since I used self check out with so many groceries I couldnāt possibly be able to afford my groceries and came up behind us after scanning some food lion brand ziplock bags, a $3 box, and put his hands on his hips and loudly said āoh, so we going to play this game today?ā With a smile on his face. When we looked confused he smiled even bigger and said we didnāt scan our bags. Which I clearly pointed out in big letters on the screen in front of me said āFL slider bagsā. Do you think he apologized? No. His only defense was he didnāt hear it beep. Personally, if I thought someone was intentionally not scanning items, I would first of all, make sure Iām not mistaken by looking at the screen and matching to items in the cart! Because if he had simply looked at the screen before embarrassing not only me and my fiancĆ©, but my fiancĆ©s grandmother as well!!! I completely understand wanting to make sure nobody steals, but if your assumptions are wrong, be a decent human being and freaking apologize for embarrassing a very loyal customer! Being new, is absolutely no excuse. He kept a smile on his face the entire time, as if it was a game. Iāve never been so embarrassed and disrespected at this location and I do expect a response to this incident. It wouldnāt even be a problem had he treated the situation with more professionalism and respect, especially after realizing he was very wrong! While checking out my groceries, I was made to feel like a criminal by the staff. One cashier was busy with another customer, so I proceeded to self-checkout. Another employee, who was cleaning a spill, appeared to rush over and closely monitor me while I used self-checkout. Her behavior made me extremely uncomfortable.
When I asked if she was supposed to be watching me, she replied that it was her job. Feeling uneasy, I asked if she could ring up my items instead. She declined and pointed to the other cashier, who was still busy.
I requested to speak with a manager. After a few minutes, Michael came over. I attempted to explain the situation, and he mentioned something about the employee using a handheld device to assist at self-checkout and pointed to a camera, suggesting that I was also being monitored by that. However, he did not apologize or address the uncomfortable and inappropriate way I was treated.
To make matters worse, after the manager walked away, the same employee came back and taunted me, saying, "I told you that was my job," which was completely unprofessional.
I contacted corporate and spoke with Jade, who said someone would follow up. After not hearing back, I called again and spoke to Destiny, who told me that Michael (the manager) had assumed the situation was "dropped."
It was not dropped. I left that store feeling disrespected and humiliated, and I still have not received any formal acknowledgment or apology for the way I was treated. This lack of accountability and follow-through is unacceptable.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI want so much to be able to give a higher rating for this particular Food Lion or for any Food Lion for that matter. However, repetitive negative experiences are outweighing the good. In the late spring early summer I started using the Food Lion app to order my groceries and pick them up due to an extremely busy schedule in which I didn't have an hour and a half to walk around the grocery store to shop. At first it was very convenient and I'm grateful for it and everybody has been very friendly. However, groceries appear available on the app and are often not such as canyon, bakehouse, gluten-free bread, the organic fruit, etc. Today I wanted to check it out for myself. So when the app told me I had certain items that were not in stock, two of the four items actually were in stock because I physically went in the store and found them. So while there I went ahead and picked up my to-go order since I was already in the store. However, I was not given my produce. Now when I try to call no one answers the phone. I am quite frankly frustrated with Food Lion. I spoke with the manager and she was very friendly, very kind and I have nothing against the manager or the clerk that rang me up and helped me out to get the manager in the first place.
