I was sold a ball python with respiratory issues! I only had the snake for a month or so. My baby started to wheez and squeak. I thought it was something I did wrong. Took her to the vet and they told me this had to be going on for a long time. It's hard to hear if you aren't right by her tank 24/7. I also purchased a tank setup and I admit I didn't do much research or even think I had to. I also asked plenty of question before purchase and the same night I did a hour or 2 worth of research. They told me to feed her once a week. In reality she needs to eat twice a week. They didn't tell me which size mice only showed me that it needed to be the girth of her body. I called them when she first started to show signs. They were at a "convention".
I was extremely scared to hear clicking sounds. I didn't know what the noise was. I then looked around and heard her squeaking. When I realized it was her immediately called vets. It seemed no one near my house had spots open, Charlotte had an available spot. I'm just disappointed, this is my first snake and I want to give her the best life possible. The light they sold me in the kit was arse, it doesn't provide heat or UVB. The substrate was terrible for humidity. The tank has a lip so the light didn't even stick. I've spent an extra $300 on actual supplies that work and benefit her. I paid $200+ and the pet store offered a percentage off when you buy the snake or the cage (can't remember exactly). They sold it without even giving the discount. I had to correct them about it. Red flag #3 at this point. I'm pretty sure they aren't keeping the humidity correct for the reptiles. How else would she be sick? She's only a year old. I know they are gonna comment and say oh we rescue. If you truly rescued her why is she still sick? Don't give me that crap!
This is like bringing home a new baby & they are sick. You blame yourself all to find out it was the hospitals doing or negligence thereof. I would love a refund for the supplies given as I can glady return them. Yet, they are gonna hit me with the "you should've researched" "you already used it". These people don't know what they are doing. They can't give proper information. I should've went to petsmart. I'm so glad I have my baby yet. It's stressful for me and her that she is sick. Most people won't read this until they are having a similar issue. I hope you all do your research and know DO NOT BUY THE KIT THEY SELL. You can buy the tank but don't buy the kit! Buy yourself some cypress and spagnuhm moss, a plant mister, a ceramic heater bulb with dome (I wouldn't buy aluminum, but a ceramic dome) and a uvb day light, a scooper, long tongs, a light stand, a large enough water bowl that your baby can soak if they need to when shedding (& to make sure they have plenty water for a day or 2 then change it), paper towels and water go clean sediment from misting (no CHEMICALS!), an infared thermometer, hydrometer, a hide big enough for the snake or 2, climbing branch for basking & exercise (make sure it is sturdy as falls can cause trauma to your snake).
The vet also said the snake had trauma on her body. I'm guessing from falling in the tank they had or mites. She was so shy when I first held her yet, she seems so happy now that she is home. Sick or not I wouldn't trade her for the world. I want a titanboa next and I will not be purchasing it from here!
Go ahead and reply on the defensive end. You know you aren't helping those animals or customers but only your fat pockets. I did see a dead fish in the tank when I was there and I should've realized. Sometimes when you are excited you let red flags slip. Similar to a new person you're dating. Then you look up and your married to the actual...
Read moreI wanted to spend my dollar at a locally owned store. I picked Dubey's. I arrived and walked in & noticed none of the staff wearing masks except one young guy. There was a group of three women standing very close and talking and none of them were wearing masks. I left without buying anything. I called to ask about the mask policy & they said they are not encouraging any mask wearing by employees or customers. They said it had to do with their first amendment rights and came off extremely rude and ignorant. The man I spoke to said that the owner doesn't believe they should do their part to slow the spread of COVID19 (he literally said this). I experienced this on the weekend after UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA had to completely remove students from the school due to outbreaks. Very sad that these community members don't care to help especially when this virus is affecting the lives of millions of people across the United States. I am a college student at a different NC college (we had half of our classes moved online, to my extreme displeasure) and I perceive this complete inaction by Dubey's & other local businesses who do not follow guidelines passed down from the FREAKING CDC & THE STATE GOVERNMENT as a threat to thousands of college students across the state & my own college education. This business should do better. I will NEVER go back. I hope Dubey's pet store gets shut down by the health department & the irresponsible owners receive a sobering wakeup call. If I cant attend my classes that I payed for & intended to be face to face, I don't think these people should be allowed to run a store. I went to a different local pet store & was happy to spend $50 because the store required & encouraged mask wearing. DOWN WITH DUBEY'S!!
EDIT: The response from the owner is a lie! There was no signage about masks and if there was, the employees do not abide by their own rules. Also, the staff openly vape in the store around the animals. It's unhealthy for an animal to breath vape clouds but once again, the employees and management do not care about animals. THE EMPLOYEES ARE BLOWING VAPE CLOUDS IN THE STORE WITH ANIMALS WHO HAVE NO CHOICE ABOUT THE AIR THEY BREATH. Dubey's only cares about "first amendment rights" and how they apply to employees working at a pet store. Take your money somewhere else. This...
Read moreWe preordered 3 frontosas from this store. We are experienced aquarium enthusiasts and have owned many fish over the years. When we picked up the fish, there was one that was already dead in their tank. The ones we took home died within an hour of acclimating them to our tank. When we called them, they said their warranty doesn’t cover aggressive fish. First of all, that has nothing to do with this situation and secondly, this was a special order. Furthermore, the fish were supposedly ordered just for us. When we happened to go into the store yesterday, the guy helping us told us they were there and “were first come, first serve”. We were the ones they were ordered for so why would it then be first come first serve? In addition to this, the employee was vaping in the store, in our faces which is so inappropriate for customer service. We’ve heard and read bad reviews on this store about other poor customer service from them and how they will gladly take your money but will not do anything to resolve issues for their customers but we still gave them a chance. At first, they said they would only replace one of the three dead fish with one they still had in the store. Their argument was that they already gave us a discount on the preorder. It does not matter what discount was given if the fish are sickly and die. The most infuriating part was that the co-owner was only willing to offer a store credit if I agreed to take down this review which is an honest review of our experience there. When I told him I would not do that and that he needed to be better with customer service, he ripped up the credit. I then told him I now had a clear understanding of why they have so many poor reviews out there.
I would not recommend this store to anyone and needless to say, they’ve lost...
