61st District Court — Local services in Grand Rapids

With actual proof, things I had to go pick up and get and make copies of that supported my case. Was never considered or looked at. We were dismissed between 5 and 8 mins. Judge said have your lawyers handle it. This has been said too many times. I thought the justice system was to protect children rights and keep them safe. Court is just a money making revolving door. Pay for the order pay for the copies no one looks at but if you don't have you look bad. Pay for a lawyer, just to do it again. The judges only give you tops at the most 10min to plead your case because they took way too many that day and well have dinner plans. That money you just spent selling your things and barrowing from family, working 12 hour days just to give the kids a chance and have your case not heard because your judge repeatedly doesn't want to do there job. I was subpoenaed today as a witness to a robbery and it cost me $20 to Uber to the court house and when I asked for reimbursement they refused. When I said that I was only there for 2 minutes and it wasn’t worth my time or money the prosecutor threatened me by saying “I could make you stay longer”. These horrible people have no concern for the people who committed the crime OR the victims as long as they get paid. It’s disgusting. And the security when I entered and asked for directions were appallingly rude and disrespectful until I said I was a witness to a crime and not the one getting prosecuted and then they apologized and pointed me in the right direction. Treated very poorly by a male judge here. I was fighting a parking ticket. I am from Chicago and the amount of tickets you get there is understandable because there’s nowhere to park. Being a new GR resident, I parked outside of my house and I was within two feet of a driveway and received a ticket. There were no signs stating otherwise. He clearly thought I was wasting his time and was very rude to me. Regardless of the verdicts, I witnessed him talk down to 3 women (1 including me) in the 45 minutes I was present in the courtroom.
