Very displeased, I am a senior at Caledonia High School and am attending the Automotive department of Kent Career Technical Center. The teachers do not deliver clear messages about what they expect and change rules for students they favor. It is not a equal oppertunity of learning. I came for a better education on automotive and so far the experience has been everything but educational. There is no help for fellow students falling behind unless you are a friend of the teachers. There is no help outside of the classroom and the teachers are very rude (at least they are in the automotive department). The teachers also have a very small industry related experience so are not helpful with beneficial questions to prepare you for the "real world". DO not expect to be treated...
Read more1st impression is NOT great... one teacher has the largest American flag ever on the wall, but we don't have that teacher 😒 We have the woman with a sexual preference flag on her lanyard. Lots of talk about teaching teenagers how to use social media 🤦♀️ like they aren't already familiar... not getting entrepreneur vibes from her either. The lack of a transparent grading scale is also troubling. Grades based on the judgement of a potentially biased teacher instead of test-based grades leave a lot of room for discrimination. REAL entrepreneurs need real numbers to base their business decisions on. I guess we'll see if the education or the indoctrination is stronger...
Read moreI attended KCTC a few years ago and all I can say is if your child is in the Kent county school district, send your child there as they learn more skills for the workforce than any regular class a high school can offer.
The have subjects such as information technology, HVAC, nursing, culinary and automotive classes that offer both learning through reading and tests, as well as actual hands on projects with tools and equipment that are used in the workforce.
Many classes also offer credits that can be transferred to many school such as Ferris State or Davenport, or at the very least they did by the time I...
