In a unique twist on the classic, the wax paper that lines the squarish ceramic bowl is printed int he facade of a newsprint, an attempt to hearken back to something homey and unique. While it's a relatively convincing fake, and it does add a bit of a twist on the standard white or red-and-white checkered paper, I don't know how much it ultimately adds to the equation. It does, however, stand out.
The rings themselves are demonstrably hand-battered, but not with delicate care. They are messy and haphazard, with hills of gnarled batter climbing off the rings to and fro. They're a bit on the darker side of golden brown, perhaps indicative of a slightly too-long fry time.
I often throw around the term "greasy" when reviewing onion rings, but I feel the overuse of that term has led to an underappreciation of the extent of grease that is possible. These onion rings, rather than being delicately brushed with a thin layer of grease, were drenched with a series of successive buckets in a desperate attempt to drown the poor onion rings.
As you can gather, these were remarkably greasy. I got hints of seasoning in the batter at times, but these hints were overwhelmed by the powerful grease. Indeed, after finishing the rings, a small pool of grease collected in the center, something I've never seen before.
Overall, the taste was overpowering, and not all that pleasant. The accompanying dipping sauce, never identified, was bizarrely both bland and poor in taste. All that said, the onions had a decently strong flavor, the only positive of taste yet identified.
The texture was a mixed bag. The batter delicately collapsed with a pop, as it puffed extravagantly out from the inconsistent (mostly thin) cut onion. To deem it a crunch would be a misnomer, and it was far more of a pop.
The batter, however, was oddly heavy, despite the pop in the bite. Each bite built a successive layer in the pit of my stomach, forming a dense layer of greasy batter and onions. There was far, far too much batter for the size of the onions. It might be more accurate to term these "piles of greasy batter that have a little bit of onion inside of them that may or may not be in the shape of a ring" rather than an onion ring.
What little onion I did encounter were decent. They were soft, without becoming mushy and overcooked, and provided a nice, soft, juicy bite. Unfortunately, the greasy ball of batter overpowered that.
For $2.99, I got a reasonably sized bowl of relatively mediocre onion rings. The quality left something to be desired, but the amount was adequate. They were filling, to an...
Read moreI am very disappointed to be writing this review. For years I have enjoyed Kitchen 67—especially the Wednesday unlimited rib deal. I’ve hosted work meetings here, celebrated with friends, and even brought out-of-state family while recommending both the food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, after tonight’s experience, I will no longer be returning. A group of six of us came in around 8:15–8:25 p.m. to celebrate a friend’s pregnancy. Since the restaurant is advertised as open until 10 p.m., we assumed we had plenty of time. By 8:30, our group was ready to order, but our server, Taylor, did not take our orders until 8:45—only after we went to get her attention. Our meals arrived at 9:15. After finishing our first round of ribs, we attempted to order another, but at 9:45pm Taylor informed us the restaurant had run out of ribs and the kitchen was closed at 9:30pm. At no point had she checked on us or given notice of last call. Four of us had purchased the unlimited ribs but were not given the opportunity to order a second round, despite paying full price. Throughout the evening, Taylor also made repeated remarks about our pregnant friend sharing her ribs with her husband. While I understand if this is against policy, the comments were unnecessary and unprofessional. In past visits, servers have never raised this issue. When bills arrived, each of us who ordered the rib special was charged for all sides, despite being told they were included. What was advertised as a $20 unlimited rib meal ended up costing $31, without the “unlimited” portion. Even after this disappointing experience, our group paid our bills and tipped. However, as we exited, we saw Taylor clear our table and then flip us off through the window. This behavior is unacceptable for any employee in customer service. We attempted to address this immediately, but staff ignored us until Manager Brian eventually came out. While he apologized and assured us he would handle the matter, his response—“she will probably be let go”—did little to reassure us that the issue would be taken seriously. Flipping off paying customers and providing dismissive, inattentive service is not a small mistake; it reflects poorly on the restaurant as a whole. I have been a loyal customer for years, but based on this visit, I cannot recommend Kitchen 67 and sincerely hope management takes steps to improve both staff training and...
Read moreWe live in Holland and original plan was to dine somewhere in downtown GR on Saturday evening to celebrate our daughter's academic achievement. BUT .. that was NOT happening since all places were basically booked and overcrowded. Then we had to make a quick decision to find another place to dine. Found this place online (since our daughter was craving for burgers and fries) - based on the reviews and menu items. We ordered MI Queso Dip (for appetizer), Hangover Burger with Truffle Fries, and two Zuckerburgers with Truffle Fries, Onion Rings and Kettle Chips. The place has a modern look and neat with lots of great artworks and paintings from ArtPrize on the wall. Quite busy the night we dined in. After finishing appetizer, finally our burgers arrived. However, we had a little "incident". One of the burgers we ordered "accidentally" came with a piece of metal inside the burger, which we didn't know what it was at first. Luckily husband only took one bite when he discovered that and we immediately called our server and explained what happened. Our server was very nice and had a quick response. She took the burger and told us she'd have the chef make another burger for a replacement. Then shortly after, the manager came to our table, sincerely apologized to us, and explained that a piece of metal appeared to be coming off from frying basket. Possibly it accidentally came off from the metal basket after frying the onion rings and accidentally landed into the burger, which Zuckerburger did include onion rings in the stack inside the bun. Incident happened and it just happened to us tonight 😞. Not too long the replacement burger arrived and we all did enjoy our meal 😁. Great burgers, fries, onion rings, dinner rolls, chips and appetizer dip!!! Burgers are hands-down 🍔🙌🏻, best quality meat burgers EVER!!! At the end, the manager took care of one of the Zuckerburgers that had the metal and took it off the bill, even though we didn't expect they would do that since we already got the replacement. That's a great and excellent customer service!!! We applauded that the manager and the server did above and beyond the call of duty. We truly appreciated the service and that's why we gave 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. We will surely be back in the future to try another...
