I used to live in Door County, Wisconsin. My sister and family live in Green Bay. Until five years ago when I moved to The Netherlands. I had a hard time with life. Depression and Anxiety ruled my world. Making it hard to get out of the house much.
But on occasion I would make it outside, and decided to go and do "something." I am not really good with large crowded places. But I needed just to head out and go somewhere other then the Super Market, Target, or work. So I would head down to Green Bay.
East Town Mall was where I would go. Did it have a lot? No, but it had enough for a shy person like me. Bay Port is nice and all but I got easily stressed being there. I never felt that at East Town. It's sad Shopko is not there anymore. But, it still has Hobby Lobby, Office Max, and Petco, and lets not forget a poor person's best friend... The Dollar Store. Always something to look at and something new. Like that Game Store was awesome. So much fun. And, I loved it when the Halloween store opened during the Holiday.
However the Gem of the East Town Mall, is the Budget Cinema. That was a gift from God. Giving people with low-income the best time out.
So all the people thumbing there noses at it. Are only looking at what East Town Mall doesn't have. You need to stop that, and look at it for what it does have. A peaceful, friendly, fun atmosphere and a place for those that aren't good with the crowds at Bay Port to get out and shop, get a bite to eat, see a movie. And above all, feel like part of your life is a little bit normal and nice.
So just because its small, don't count it short. I actually plan my Visits to take my Husband to the Cinema when I come home. I hope that it will be there forever.
Thank you East Town Mall. You did more for me just being there then you could ever know.
Much Love from Amsterdam
P.S. Go...
Read moreI stopped by the East Towne Mall with my baby and sister-in-law last week to kill some time and was dissapointed to see what little is left there. While Hobby Lobby, Kohls, and OfficeMax are all great and useful anchors, none of them are even accessible to each other from within the mall and there are barely even half a dozen stores open that are.
It is sad to see that whomever is managing the property is putting so little effort into it today, as it was once a fun place to go experience local craft fairs and unique specialty shops you couldn't find elsewhere.
The most unfortunate piece is the obvious lack of effort. While entrances to stores are closed, several of them still have working signage to an entrance that has been walled off. Plastic bags and tarps are used to block hallways where they don't want people, and several of the closed businesses are now used as storage for boxes of stuff that was either abandoned there, or has been hauled there thinking nobody would see it.
I'm afraid that in it's current state, the East Town Mall is doomed for failure, even with the recent renovation of the old Cub Foods next door providing even more quality anchor business, I would never consider putting one of my businesses in there the way it...
Read moreThis mall used to be a great place to shop, dine and see movies on a budget. Now the place is a lost cause. For those people who live outside the Green Bay area, please visit Bay Park Square on Oneida Street in Ashwaubenon instead.
Update for 2021: This mall has been redeveloped, taking on the form of strip mall. Bath & Body Works and the other remaining tenants have moved out of the inside of the mall, the mall's interior was gutted, so a local tent manufacturer could move in. Stores are moving into storefronts facing the parking lot and Planet Fitness has moved into the former OfficeMax store. I also heard a Five Below store is in this...
