INITIAL review As a visiting member from my usual New York Crunch location, I visited this Crunch location with a member. Austin, a manager took us around the gym for a tour , and informed us of all the perks and deals for my members when I bring them. I will be coming back!
Now, letâs get to the red flags because I sat through this âtalk and paperworkâ with my guest. First red flag was Austin (a manager) lying straight to my face on multiple occasions and âbending the rulesâ. As a member of a different crunch location, I am familiar with the possible offer of a free 1-Day pass that is offered so people can try out the gym before they commit to a membership. I asked Austin if this location offers this type of pass and he said âunfortunately we do notâ. âŚthen why when I left, I found a free 1-Day pass page on this locationâs website? I think as a manager, he should know if the location offers a free 1-Day pass.
Next, my guest was told that if he joined that same day , he would get the membership at a discounted rate and 30 days for free!! Sounds nice right? It does, except for the second part that was not mentioned, which is the fact that itâs basically you get the first month free but with that, you are signing a commitment of 3 months, which means you are billed for month 2 &3. I knew about this since I recently made my own membership but this was definitely being omitted during this sit down talk with my guest. So I asked not once, not twice, but 3 times to be 100% certain , I asked Austin if this offer is committed, as in is my guest has to commit to 3 months (pay for month 2&3) at least before being able to cancel the membership. I was told, and I quote âthe way Iâm doing it, itâs notâ. In a way this sounded like he was bending the rules , but we took his word for it and my guest signed up for what we were told was the âPeak Resultsâ membership for a free month. Once again, it was NOT disclosed that âno commitmentâ begins after initial membership period of 90 daysâ so my guest filled out a few questions for the membership and towards the end was told to put in his bank routing number. I wasnât sure if this was customary so I asked if thereâs a way to sign up for the membership with just a credit card (like I did), Austin said that they ask for the routing number âjust to make sureâ. Just to make sure of what??
A few days ago, I visit this location with the same guest to cancel the âno commitmentâ membership. A girl at the front desk said that we canât cancel the membership since it was recently made, so we explained that Austin told us that when we want to cancel the membership, to come talk to him but we were told , thats not how it works âall memberships are at least 3 months and you canât cancel until Januaryâ and that Austin wasnât there at the time and thereâs no way to contact him unless we somehow luckily come in at a time that he is there. So basically the offer really WAS too good to be true and my guest and I were lied to and should have listened to my gut. Be cautious if you make a...
Read moreI just wanted express my dissatisfaction with the policy/staff at this location regarding bringing in a guest.
I hold the peak-results membership (whatever that means) that explicitly allows me to bring a guest.
When I visited the gym recently with a guest, we were immediately approached by an employee who insisted on asking my guest âa couple of questions.â This turned into an extended, unsolicited sales pitch during which they attempted to repeatedly pressure my guest to sign up for her own membershipâeven though she clearly declined multiple times and stated that she would be attending only as MY GUEST, as permitted under my membership plan.
Despite her clear and repeated refusals, the employee continued to push the issue and even brought over a personal trainer to pitch a training package - which she also declined.
My guest was then forced to endure yet another sales attempt. As if that werenât enough, my guest was subjected to a tour of the facilityâeven after I stated I had to be at work soon and did not have time for that but she still insisted. So the whole ordeal took 20 minutes, severely cutting into the short window we had available to actually work out.
This interaction was completely inconsistent with prior experiences. I had brought another guest a few days prior and none of this happened. Clearly, the staff is not applying policies consistently nor are they telling you of idiotic policies.
To make matters worse, when I spoke with the manager to voice my concerns, I was met with a dismissive attitude.
He claimed that what we experienced was ânormal policyâ for all new guests (which is ridiculous).
That is just completely unreasonable and none of the gyms Iâve been to in the past have ever done something like this before.
The manager then proceeded to say that my guest was coming for "freeâ which is laughable at best, disrespectful and prompted me to immediately cancel my membership.
Iâd expect you to do something like this to someone who just waltzes in and says 'I might be interested in signing up', not to a guest whoâs accompanying a member with a membership that explicitly allows you to bring in a guest an unlimited amount of times because they are paying a higher fee in order to bring a guest. So no they are not coming for âFreeâ....
Read moreI typically donât write reviews but this gym is so un professional and un helpful. I went in to get a membership and was basically forced to also get a supposed free training pass with a personal trainer, WRONG they never say the truth. I decided to get the personal trainer just to try and even see if I could do the exercise, and once I tried the pass I clearly knew I couldnât get that personal trainer because my body couldnât take the exercises and they still insisted on me getting the personal trainer and let me mention DOMINIC is the supervisor on that department and he is a lair he said if I didnât want to continue the training that I could cancel anytime WRONG when I went back to cancel he couldnât even come out and confront me so he sent his little personal trainers who know nothing about trading nor customer service might I mention and then they continue to say that I couldnât cancel because I had to wait 3 months which they never mentioned when I signed up of course because I wouldnât have signed up if I knew this information, and also they said they would charge me every two weeks and they started charging me weekly and then when I mentioned this issue too DOMINIC he said oh my bad and never refunded me on top of everything else, this gym sucks and they are literally scammers and every single person that works there, Nobody tries to help you, especially the manager SETH And his little posse that works in the front with him. And then when I went into cancel my membership, no one helped me. Everyone was so disrespectful. They were literally all just texting each other to know what to say because no one could come out and confront me and nobody helped. And then they said it was a language barrier, but I speak English, so I donât understand how there was a language barrier I clearly speak English. Overall, I do not recommend this gym. Itâs terrible. Do not get scammed by these people. And then when I went in today to cancel my regular membership, they literally started elbow in each other just to see what they would say to me because no one there gives you answers. I really hope they shut this gym down because their customer service is just terrible and whoever owns this gym needs to get new employees because...
