Thee Alzheimer's Association is hands down the winner!~ There is something for everyone. Individuals with Alzheimer's, Caregivers, and persons seeking information and educational opportunities regarding this terrible disease. Where else could you obtain so much without any cost? A wide array of programs are offered by the Greenville Association. Regular meetings are held at least four times a month for the Alzheimer's individual and their caregiver. One such meeting is held at the Up-Country Museum. This event includes a tour of a current exhibit followed by a craft related to the exhibit. All of the events are wonderful opportunities to meet others and discover you are not alone on this journey. At some of the other meetings, we have made stained glass projects, Easter Bonnets, played games, been entertained by great musicians. Other activities include field trips to different places of interest in the Greenville area.What fun and at the same time gaining support and information.Educational programs are provided on a regular basis that cover many topics that will help both the caregiver and the Alzheimer's individual.Jamie Guay, the planner, leader of all activities, named this active group Connections. Why Connections? Social interaction is a major factor in slowing down the progression of Alzheimer's disease.Respite is another of the associations opportunities. The Educational programs they offer helped me to understand the disease and how to be a better caregiver. Attending the Connections activities showed me that I was not alone in dealing with this devastating disease. The support and understanding I received from the staff and from others in the group meetings has been vital to my health - emotional, physical, and mental. And through the Association, I have learned of things I can do to help other families and to find a cure: fundraising; talking to state and federal representatives, and participating in trial studies. ...

My mother is living with dementia and being a caregiver can be a very lonely hard journey but the Alzneimer’s Association provided opportunities to connect with those on the same journey.
