At fifteen weeks pregnant, I was transferred to the School of Medicine after my OB, gastroenterologist, and primary care provider in town realized they couldn’t help me. Ongoing back, leg, and gastro pain and discomfort had spiraled downward rendering me unable to walk, sit, crawl or eat solid foods without crippling pain.
My first appointment was scheduled for 1:15 on a Wednesday with the OB but the transport people could not provide a stretcher on short notice so my husband did his best to get me in with a wheelchair.
As soon as we stepped into the facility, a member- seeming to start off to lunch or end her shift- noticed that I was in distress. She immediately addressed us and changed her direction, ushering us quickly to a room and notifying the appropriate personnel of my urgent need for attention.
From that moment on through the next eight hours we were there, every single member on staff showed me mercy and gave me truly compassionate care.
I was diagnosed and treated so that I could eat finally again that very night (the issue- which was a severely herniated disc- had been ongoing and worsening for about three months) and I look forward to my appointments in the coming months.
I know that my baby and I are in capable and caring hands.
