We had an unusual key that we needed some duplicates of, since we only had one key (it was a key to a lock box, and if the one key in our possession had gotten lost, we would've been in a lot of trouble trying to get into that box!). At first I went to Lowes to see if they could cut it, but a gentleman there told me to try Ace Hardware on Worthsville Road, because he had successfully gotten a small mailbox key cut there.
I went to this Ace Hardware and spoke to Jennie and also a woman that I believe may have been her supervisor. They checked to see if their machine could cut it, and it indicated that it could. However, they had no blanks of that particular type of key. They said they would order some and I could come back in a week and get it cut.
When I came back almost two weeks later, no one remembered me or the key I needed to get cut. A tall older gentleman told me that those blanks had not been ordered and that they were not obtainable by the store. I thought that was odd, because I had been standing right there when Jennie put the order into the computer.
Jennie came up and remembered me (so at least I knew that I had not made it all up somehow!). Then Finn came to help - thankfully! Finn found the note that they'd left in the office with my name and phone number. He told me that if we could get hold of some blanks, he would cut the keys for me.
We ordered some of these blanks from Amazon and came back a few days later. Jennie was there but she didn't know how to enter the information to cut the keys (we had no SKU number) so she advised us to come back at noon, when Finn was coming in, because he would know how to bypass the SKU and cut the keys.
My husband returned to the store at 12 and Finn was there. He went absolutely above and beyond cutting those keys, which in the end he had to do MANUALLY. This could not have been easy, but we got our three keys and he did not charge us for cutting them, because we had provided the blanks.
This employee absolutely went above and beyond for us and I am SO appreciative of his help and his kind patience in dealing with us and getting those keys cut. I hope Finn's manager knows what an absolute GEM of an employee they have! And whether he intends to stay in retail hardware, or whatever he chooses to do in life, I know that Finn will 100% be a success because he is so intelligent, conscientious and meticulous in his work. And - ALL THREE OF THE KEYS HE CUT WORKED PERFECTLY! So that is a huge load off our minds, thanks to Finn.

Read moreWe had an incident where we rented the rototiller and our vehicle was damaged because the employee refused to do a team-lift into our minivan. When my wife pointed out the damage to the employee, his response was, "well, it is hard to put a rototiller in the back of a minivan." He did at least document the damage and said a manager would call us the next day. When nobody had called, I called the store and the manager ask that we come in to speak to the store manager. I went into the store where I was met with by "Smokey." He said, "I can't believe you'd even show up at this store." Followed by, "I suggest you leave the store and never come back." I had not even requested the damage be repaired. My expectation was to at least get an apology and maybe implement a policy of 2-person lifting of heavy objects into vehicles. Ace Hardware stores are franchises, so I called their corporate office to inform them of the occurrence. This is actually the second time we have had this happen to us from Ace Hardware. The first time, I just brushed it off. The unfortunate thing is that the employees here are really helpful and great. But, their ownership needs to take a customer...

2021 UPDATE - Unfortunately this place was sold and went down hill fast. My daughter tried to call into the store the other day while sitting outside. There were several people that later she identified as the new employees standing around and no one answered the phone. She then went in and asked about a product to the person standing behind the counter at the cash register (who was on his cell phone) he said he didn’t work there. She then went back and found two large bag of dog food and struggled with getting them up front. She then asked another individual to help her take them outside. I am in the high risk category due to some medical conditions and we will no longer be able to come back without curbside service. This is unfortunate as the previous owners kept us coming back with the amazing customer service which is usually lacking at the big hardware store chains and now...
