No food rating because they have no food except potato chips, but they gave me a 10% off coupon for pizza joint across the street, which I think you can eat inside the bar.
The bartender had to get help from the owner. I wanted a German style beer. I was very pleased they had one, Helles lager. Every "craft" bar in California only seems to have IPA, heferweisen, or stouts. I'm glad the bartender asked the owner for help. The barkeeps should taste and learn about all the beers and wines.
A part I disliked: well, it's great they have old albums. Don't think they knew the one I was looking for, which is on the top 100 all-time albums. Then when I mentioned the group, someone else perked up, so I thought, ok, we'll listen to them, just not the album I wanted. The bartender said he'd play it after the current album was done.
They advertise 1970s and '80s albums, which is great! but his album was from a group that formed in 2009. Okay, fine, we all should expose ourselves to different sounds. But when he put on my request, he played 1 side and maybe 2 songs on side 2. Just before the song I really wanted to hear, he took it off and played his same damn album again! Thumbs down!
Another thing that bugged me. It was very warm in there; no ocean breezes hit the place. Not thinking, I did what everyone in the past did - after having read the album cover, I fanned myself a few times with it. (If only you knew how many hundred times that happened in the past, and how many hundreds of joints were rolled on them!) He grabbed the cover from me and placed it out of reach, like "Naughty girl, no no". He gave a reason; they're old covers, they want to save them. That made sense, but a nicer method would be to quietly say "We need to save these old covers. We don't mind customers reading them, but if you're hot, I can get you ice water or turn on a fan". I don't think the insult was deliberate, but it came across that way.
I rate it a 4 despite my issues, which may seem trivial, but to a thirsty person who loved reading about the album collection, issues mattered. But they were good because of their selection of local wine and beer, and the owner was nice and...
Read moreMy family and I drove down to Avila beach for the day. I wanted to get a quick beer before we headed to the beach so we stopped at this bar. There were a few people in there most likely locals. We were going to sit at an outside table and just as we were going to sit down the guy/owner that was working there came out and told us that we couldn’t be there because of our daughter and that his license doesn’t allow for children. I was fine with that especially in my field of work we understood and walked across the street to a winery business. My wife and daughter sat at the table outside, while I went inside to order a beer. My wife then noticed that a couple with three kids all under five proceeded to seat themselves at the same place that we were told we had to leave from because they didn’t allow children. While sitting at the table she then observed the male that was working there did not ask them to leave just as he did us. He actually served them two beers with the children. The man with the kids came out with two beers and sat next to his wife and three kids. When my wife made me aware of the situation I actually walked over and asked him about it, he was actually surprised along with the patrons that were sitting at the table but his excuse was that the couple had come by yesterday and he had told them they had to leave but they still came back. It didn’t make sense because why would he still serve them beers knowing they came yesterday and they have kids? He did apologize, after I brought it to his attention however make it make sense if you’re going to make up an excuse. In my line of work this is less than truthful. My wife says it was because we were hispanic. Everyone in there was white, no disrespect to white people or anyone in that matter, she was just pointing it out which made sense. I don’t want to believe that was the case but sometimes it is what it is. If your going to have a drink in that vicinity I recommend the establishment across the street called Avila Wine and Roasting which is owned by a really nice gentleman. As for this place I will never return the...

I will never recommend anyone to this place. I have never been so disrespected like that. I added a picture so you could see the couple with their kids and the establishment and location street signs to stay away from.
Molly, please tell your husband that I observed from across the street the man ordering inside while carrying one of his children on his hip. I watched like a hawk because I wanted to see if he was going to make him leave but he didn’t. Please do better in the future and know that being dishonest isn’t the...
