I have been to Kraken a few times in Avila and a few times in Pismo. I am really sad to see that service has gone downhill. It's a rainy Monday morning, but you had 3 staff working the front counter, the cashier was on his phone as we walked in, put it down, took our order, and then picked it right back up and kept scrolling. The other two baristas were pleasant enough but were chatting it up amongst themselves. Truly, only the girl was helpful after my husband told her I spilled my coffee while trying to get the lid on. She cleaned up my cup and the floor area. We tried to tell the cashier first, but he was too busy scrolling on his phone. I rarely put negative reviews, but when you have customers in your shop, you should be attentive. There were other customers upstairs, and when a family left, they didn't even say goodbye. Please do better when it comes to customer service. It...
Read moreThis place would make SO much more money if they closed at a normal time. I was literally upstairs just starting to work along with about 12 other people who were also there when they told us they were closing in a half hour. I looked at my watch and was so confused because it was only 1:30. We all were basically kicked out and I didn't even get to order coffee... I think the owners are just too lazy to change the hours because they don't care. Would recommend if you are an early riser and elderly but the Kraken is definitely not interested in catering to students or normal working people. They give off this holistic, hippie-earthy vibe and they are the direct opposite which I think is amusing. They cater to wealthy Avila beach locals who wake up and go to bed early because they don't have a life. I would recommend somewhere like Kreuzberg instead who's atmosphere and staff uphold...
Read moreSmall coffee shop in Avila Beach serving coffee and hot drinks. They also have small batch ice cream that I wanted to try but it was a bit too cold in November for me.
The white mocha and Mexican mocha were pretty darn good in my opinion. Coffee beans used for the drinks were flavorful and did not have the burnt taste that I associate with chain coffee shops. Their bacon scone was seriously delicious and should be tried.
Where they really shined was their customer service and attitude. I went in on Thanksgiving morning and was greeted by their cheerful and smiling (behind the masks of course) faces. The mood there was upbeat and cheerful. When I made my order they apparently remembered me and asked how I liked my previous mornings order! That was an nice touch.
I will definitely be returning here I my next trip to this area and tell my friends about this great...
