I never post reviews. My recent experience at this business however forces me to write one. The short version is this - if you will be satisfied with mediocre work, uneven, crooked stitching, and refusal by the owner to correct these mistakes if you notice them, then you might well be happy with the work at La'Ber. Otherwise, there are better options for tailoring in Bergen county.
I work in an office with a casual dress code. I wear a lot of polo shirts. Due to positive reviews, I came here to have a polo shirt shortened. I picked up my alteration one morning before work. I did not have time to inspect my shirt too closely at the time of pick-up.
It was only when getting said shirt home that I realized the stitching was quite crooked. I took it back to La'Ber, explaining that though I have been happy with their tailoring in the past, this time around I was unsatisfied. I was told to leave my shirt. The shirt was to be restitched, available for pick up the following day.
I picked up my shirt. I have examined it closely. There was NOTHING done to it. I was told, of course, that the shirt was restitched, but this was a lie. The crooked stitching remains the same, askew in the same exact places as before, with no evidence of the loose bits of thread customary when a stitch is taken apart and resewn. To make matters worse, there are ink stains (on a white shirt), which I spotted while in the store. Now, the seamstress did try to remove it (ineffectually) using some "Shout". She did say sorry for storing my shirt carelessly next to some pens by the cash register.
The people at La'Ber may seem like accommodating, friendly people. Don't be fooled. Bottom line is this: I already paid them. If I am unsatisfied, that is no longer their concern. So long as they already have your money, they will not care about your satisfaction, and will disdain standing behind their work by correcting a mistake. They are, in fact, unashamed to lie to you, insomuch as this spares them extra work for which they do not expect more payment.
There are too many tailors, more honest and more competent in our area, for me to deal with this...
Read moreI brought a brides maids dress here that I was so unhappy with and begged for them to do anything to fix it. The dress was originally way too big on me and I was extremely uncomfortable in it.
Before bringing it to La' Ber I brought it to a dry cleaner who promised me they could fix it. When I got it from the dry cleaner days later I was still unhappy. I shared this with the dry cleaner and he ever so politely told me it was my fault that I'm unhappy bc my body is "not proportional due to the fact that I exercise often."
I was so desperate I brought the dress into La'Ber and was immediately put at ease. She undid everything that the dry cleaner did and told me not to worry. Within 3 days I had what felt like a brand new dress! It fit me perfectly and I actually loved wearing it! I cannot thank La'Ber enough and will definitely...
Read moreI have been a client of La'Ber for over 1 year. The dry cleaning service is top notch. On time, as promised and well communicated when completed. It's a family run enterprise and the star is the matriarch Kiymet. She handles the expert tailoring done at the shop. I have had several jackets, coats and pants taken in since my weight loss. She is an expert at her art. Her advise is always on point. Needless to say, I have been completely satisfied with her amazing work. I have a few designer pieces of clothing that I have trusted Kiymet to work her magic with scissors, needle and thread. I highly recommend her work and any service offered at La'Ber. You are in good hands. Prices are very reasonable compared to other tailors I have used in the past. This quaint but elegant shop delivers exceptional hand work and fantastic...
